Re: OT - Feed Finger Gouges Or ?

Cool, I'll look forward to seeing it in hand. Might come back with something generic like 'die gouges' but I'll try to dig a little

Re: OT - Feed Finger Gouges Or ?

Wild! Looks way too strong for feeder fingers. Is the stuff that appears to be to the right and below In God We Trust directly opposite the affected area on the reverse?

Re: Morgan Dollar Discovery Procedure Update

There are other venues like CONECA or Wexler for this sort of thing. They are not and never will be part of the VAM catalog.

Re: O/T Taxman

Tomorrow will make it exactly one year since Ohio dropped the sales tax on coins composed of precious metals. EBay is still collecting sales tax. Think the company or the state actually care?

Re: 1878-S dollar. Can you separate fact from fiction?

Where did this come from: "We also know that the VAM 57 and 26 used the same reverse." This statement clearly says VAM 26 and 57 used the same ("identical')reverse....or is that supposed to refer the the REV HUB design not the specific die? Think it was simply a typo and he meant obverse. The three...

Re: 1878-S dollar. Can you separate fact from fiction?

The VAM 60 reverse die was only used for the VAM 60

The obverse was used for the other two marriages noted.

You'd think that, but it's a central point of the whole 'evil mimic' thing. This is now officially VAM 145

Just to confirm what John Coxe said, I am backlogged. Doesn't appear to be going away anytime soon either. It's both a blessing and curse. Before COVID hit, there was real talk of our industry dying out

Re: 1878-S VAM 60 shared reverse

Here's the rundown of shared dies from my booklet and later research. Only one reverse die was shared in the 'Long Nock' group. The same die was used for VAMs 56 and 58. There was far more die swapping among the obverses used in this group. Each is an early hub stage of the 'Broken 4th Right Star' w...

Re: Interesting counterstamp. Anybody seen this before??

If you're wondering about the W shape, picture the reeding on many dollars. The deepest parts are obvious - it's from the reeds. The indentation in the centers is not typical, but many pieces have small raised ridges in the center of the spaces between reeds. It's like the EDS stage of the collar di...
