Re: 1881-O Back in Motion

I forgot to call to everyone's attention the little note in the writeup on the Kennedy party: "but the Kennedys, who gave this one, were a power in the social world at that time—and ambitious beyond their means ." So we might have some hint about living in the Mint, but also the use of the Mint empl...

Re: 2021 dollars

I hope better than they just handled the V75 gold coins. Apparently they all went to dealers and created an extremely rare coin that most here will never be able to buy in grade 70. I was on the site and hit enter within one second of the sale and never got through. With only 1945 coins available th...

Re: 1881-O Back in Motion

Thanks and glad to return. Just needed a little break after years of working on the 1881-O.

1881-O Back in Motion

Well after an absence of a few months I am ready to get back to work. I will probably take things at a more measured pace going forward, but will update and post as I have progress to report. For December I continued with the study of the Mint Directors with the second, Joseph M. Kennedy. This is so...

Re: PCGS customer service

I wonder if COVID is giving a lot of people home time to catch up on things and flooding them with individual backlogs?

No but the complete list of coins was in last Sunday's E-Sylum I believe and it is an interesting set.

Re: PCGS re-holder special.. blah

I think it is like a call on the football field being reviewed by instant replay. They have a hint, but also have to prove why it isn't what JB said it was.

Re: PCGS re-holder special.. blah

I think for all of us the best answer is to have JB attribute them and then if needed send them in to a TPG. It costs a little more but eliminates resending and missed attributions.

Re: Not secure !!!!

I think it is just a warning when you go to a site address that is prefixed with HTTP: and not HTTPS: I am pretty sure Edge started this a few months ago. I think you have to buy (or create) a site certificate and reference the site as HTTPS to get it to stop. There also has to be a little piece of ...

Re: PCGS re-holder special.. blah

Well if you are having to send them in for correction maybe they should farm them out to VAM experts like JB. Several years back I thought there was a discussion about how to get on the experts list since they were paying something. But that could have been one of the other TPG's. From a liability s...

Re: PCGS re-holder special.. blah

Just curious, but I thought they farmed out some of the VAM attribution work, especially on more difficult ones. I wonder if this is the bottleneck since I think you said it was for pix and attribution. While taking a break here I have been submitting Comitia Americana medals and First Spouse gold c...

Re: rarity?

And I would throw in desirability. In the 1881-O series the VAMs 1D, 5, and 27 are the most desirable but rarity is always a wild card with VAMs in my opinion. I thought the 1D Flaky Eye was rare, but I found 23 of them in 10 different grades without a lot of effort. So perhaps not as rare as just d...

Re: PCGS re-holder special.. blah

I think there is a coding error on submissions where all the Gold Shield orders are marked as in for imaging at the start even though they are not at that stage. I have noticed that my orders are marked as in for imaging from the start even though I know they cannot be that far along in the process....

I have also had some slow orders lately, but I am cutting them some slack because of COVID. They probably have the same personnel issues as everyone else.
