Re: Morgan 1921-P VAM-107 ... Part of VAM-3GA?

As we progress into later die states scribbles are gone, with only a few diagonal lines across the lower abdomen. A crack that will ultimately span between the "D" and the "R" of dollar via the wreath begins to develop. WIN_20200220_13_16_24_Pro.jpg WIN_20200220_13_15_59_Pro.jpg Eventually the crack...

Morgan 1921-P VAM-107 ... Part of VAM-3GA?

As described in the attribution pages, Morgan 1921-P VAM-3GA spans quite a range of die states. EDS examples show fairly heavy scribbles, a distinct gouge in the "D" of "UNITED", and some conspicuous scratches in the right wing, a small gouge in the lower left wing, but no cracks in "DOLLAR". Morgan 1921-P VAM-1BH = VAM-72/72A ?

I have a couple of examples I attributed to VAM-1BH. The key in the scribbles area are the two diagonal squiggles between the 4th and 5th upper tail feathers. The bent "hairpin" to the left of the 5th UTF is also distinctive. WIN_20200218_12_56_20_Pro.jpg Absent the bent "hairpin", however, we can a...

Re: 1921-P D1 scribbles help needed

I match the scribbles outside the eagle's right leg pretty closely with your example. There is a diagonal line from the outer toe to the top of the lower leg segment. And there are two semi-parallel lines in the upper left corner of that space that appear to match yours. Also, the space just above t...

Is Morgan 1921-P VAM-1AK an LDS of VAM-40A?

I was working this coin up and arrived at VAM-1AK, based on the diagonal scratch in the bow and the vertical scratch in the inner feathers of the left wing. WIN_20200215_08_39_57_Pro.jpg WIN_20200215_08_42_16_Pro.jpg Admittedly not a lot to go on. However, I kept digging around and stumbled on VAM-4...

Morgan 1921-P VAM-93 = EDS of VAM-57

While I don't have a VAM-93 in hand, if the attribution page photos are correct VAM-93 appears to be an EDS of VAM-57. This is a VAM-57, part way to having the two cracks that join between the "AR" in "DOLLAR". Note the die scratch originating at "A", which is identical to that shown on the VAM-93 p...

Re: 1921-P D1 VAMs 1BG>1P>38A?

I use a similar approach to the scribbles guide, but I usually start at the bottom if there is any doubling on the stars or date. I went straight to the feed finger page on mine. Had I gone to the scribbles page I would have hit 1BG (working from the bottom), but the gouge at "F" was very obvious. T...

Re: 1921-P D1 VAMs 1BG>1P>38A?

I have a 1BG and a 1P, and I agree they are the same VAM. I have a 38 (but not a 38A); I have found nothing to make me believe it is related to the other two. Thanks for the confirmation. I agree on the 38. I have a 38 and it is not like 1BG or 1P. I don't have a 38A but on the surface it appears t...

1921-P D1 VAMs 1BG>1P>38A?

Here is an example of a 21P D1 Reverse with 1BG's scribbles and 1P's "F" Feed Finger Gouge. WIN_20200212_14_09_19_Pro.jpg WIN_20200212_14_07_42_Pro.jpg It also has the scratches at the left wing neck gap as in 1BG. Re: 1904-O VAM-31 Collar Clash?

Thanks for the information.

The area shown previously runs from about 9 o'clock to about 11 o'clock. There is a similar rim feature from about 1 o'clock to about 3 o'clock.

Re: 1921-P Morgan VAM 35 upper tail talon

I took a quick look at the VAM-35 page.

While the main title is correct, a subtitle lists it as a 1935-P.

I also vote debris. If it were ever encapsulated and then broken out, small bits of plastic can find their way to a coin's surface. Probably not likely here, though.

My double clashed examples have that feature at the hair vee as well. WIN_20200202_09_29_54_Pro (2).jpg My single-clashed example does not show that feature as clearly. WIN_20200202_09_30_39_Pro (2).jpg If it was an "S" shouldn't it be incuse? This looks like it is above the surrounding surface.

It didn't look right to me on first pass, but there are many points of similarity. I am wondering if the lighting angle of the photos might be an is...

I think you may be correct. There is a # shape in the upper part of the 3GC photo that looks close to this one.
