Re: 1900 O/CC Speculation

The letter actually agrees with what I said about CC's die usage. They only used 10 pairs in 1892. There are 5 VAMs from 1893-CC and 6 from the 1900 O/CC series. Your math is adding up to exactly what I'm speculating... The 5 working dies that had already been put into use in 1893 were destroyed and...

Re: 1900 O/CC Speculation

If die records for the Engraving Department existed, it might be possible to match left-over CC dies to those sent to New Orleans - every die was tracked even when it was renumbered. But those records seem to be missing. We have to work with what is available, and do what is possible to gradually i...

Re: 1900 O/CC Speculation

One invetigation I have wanted to undertake for years, but will likely never have the time is whether the O/CC reverse dies were, in fact, previously used to strike CC dollars. Once would need each well struck, early strike O/CC VAM reverse in hand in high grade and as many possible high grade CC d...

Re: 1900 O/CC Speculation

Carson City was officially closed in June of 1899. They stopped producing coins in 93, but didn't lose the official designation until 99. Makes sense they had a few CC reverses laying around in the interim in case the mint was needed for production. After CC closed on July 1 of 1899, they re-purpose...

Re: Low grade attribution on ANACS holder

It’s the 87-O 30A. The clash above Dollar in leaves shows enough to know what it is. I feel like there needs to be a special designation for P/G coins that are able to be attributed, but missing many of the sought-after details on the coin. Feels kind of weird seeing a "WOW" coin labeled as such bu...

Re: Low grade attribution on ANACS holder

Was wondering about very low grade varieties that the letter transfer is not visible, however many of the clashes that are only present on the particular variety can be seen. Would it still be AOH as the variety? Does the letter in question define the VAM? Or just a part of the overall? I mean to s...

Re: Do these 1921-P cracks look familiar?

Face gouges/cracks and the scribbles are reminiscent of 3FW, but I'm not sure how it would have progressed to have those awesome monster cracks without anyone noticing. Interesting coin... Edit: 3FW/81... Whatever the nomenclature... This one... http://ec2-13-58-222-16.us-east-2.compute.amazonaws.co...

Road Trip Purchase...

Heya all and happy holidays :) Hope everyone is having an excellent season with friends and family. Heading home from a quick road trip with the Mrs, and found this one sitting in a pawn shop. I don't have my loupe or scope at the moment, but thought I'd toss it up for opinions... It's the first int...

Why would you want another listing? VAM 11 is already listed for the doubling. It would be a waste of time and money in my opinion.

Re: 1887P Doubling

Thank you everybody for your response. Can this one as CascadeChris was talking about if it is severe enough, get listed as a separate die stage of a known die pair? Do I need more or better photos? Thank you all... Tennessee....🤔 To answer: I'd send it if I had others going and had space. Listable...
