Re: 1887-P
Thanks for the help guys, sometimes it’s right in front of you. I did not look close enough and thought it was just a couple of gouges in the denticles when I saw it in my posted picture.

1887-P
This is a left side of normal slanted date that has what appears to be over polishing or a gouge.
Couldn’t quite match it with anything. Any thoughts?

Re: 1883-O VAM 12 Confirmation?
Yes this does appear to be a VAM 12. The dot is hard to see on your picture of obverse. This VAM does not have a lot to go by. The polish lines headed southeast from the hair to the earlobe and the stage of the broken lower loop of the 3 appear correct. The mm placement appears correct. This is an i...

Alan,
Are you suggesting the 86 in question or any years’ ear doubling progression?

Re: 1883-o proof like?
Frosty the coin you show appears to be shinny from circulation and possibly improper cleaning. As far as a star clash on the forehead it appears more like hits on the coin post mint that resembles a star. I’m not sure of your knowledge of the minting process, the gentleman that responded previously,...

Most of the 3’s from 1883 show what appears to be a punch issue.

Re: New VAM-e Sent - Michael Fey Buys LVA Assets
Big news for sure and am also glad the information was provided the way it was. It sure will not be the same as getting personal notes returned from Leroy with our submissions, but it is very good news and a relief to know that it will carry on in some fashion.

1883-O VAM 64
Appears VAM 64 is a duplicate of VAM 8 or 8A. The 8 is actually a later die state of the 8A as far as I have found, where the gouges beneath star fade away.

Re: photos of 1883-O VAM-28
The VAM 28 was only listed as doubled 3. So this could certainly be listed as VAM 28. I originally had this listed as 37 very early in the die study due to very slight doubling on top of 3. I changed it to Q1(my first Questioned die) after JR returned without designation and when I saw a good pictur...

Re: photos of 1883-O V-18
This is the same Die Pair as VAM 1J. You can see the cud forming below date. The obverse was used previously in VAM 1C2. The key I use for reverse is a a raised beveld area above the second s in states which progresses clockwise to "o" in "of" with die use. I suppose feed fingers caused this and wha...
