Re: Have you ever been "VAMboozled" ?
Early in my VAM learning i would buy from some more knowledgeable VAMmers. A couple rather than give me a price would ask what I would be willing to pay. Looking back i realize I paid too much for few. I haven’t given it too much energy, at the time i was happy to acquire what i did. To flip it arou...

Filled digit in date or mm
Looking at another denomination and was wondering when a closed digit like a nine or a mint mark like an O or D is filled and the fill is actually higher than digit or mm on the coin, did the center of the mm or digit, which would appear like a small pillar, in the working die break off during strik...

Is the missing portion of the upper left outside of O, what you are referring to as O/O?

Re: 1883-O Clash OBV/REV cannot find VAM match
I believe the two coins are different. Based on the tru view reverse i think that is either 23 series or 35 which share the same reverse die and the clash on the n is left inside where as your other coin is clashed at right inside of n. The date, ear, mm, wing gap would help you to identify your oth...

ANACS question
Hopefully its ok to ask this here.
I was in the 83-O population pages and saw this.
CER-001 PLATE —- i think i saw 1 attributed, what is this?
Also i did not see a VAM 37 even listed as zero attributions.

The crack through the N is key, to this one IMO. Passed by the show on the way to SA.

Yes welcome to Vamworld.
After reading JR post i wondered how to know you were new and see that the date you joined is on far right side of the screen out side the screen of a phone when reading a post.
Now wondering how to tell its your first post from this page Im typing on?

Re: 1883-O Branch Mint Proof Question- VAM11 or VAM19 die set used?
I have not studied proofs much, but have spent several years looking at 83-Os. I have seen one slabbed as a BMP after Nico brought it to attention several years ago on Heritage. It used both die of the VAM-19. I have a few and some do not have much luster as i think a coin would look if struck from ...

Re: Slanted Date?
I think one would need a VAM 15 in hand attributed by ANACS since you have been around to say it has the same obverse as VAM 38. There are ~ 4 other VAMs that have a 3 with similar punch deterioration Stage as 38. I appreciate all the work that has been done on the 83-O pages. Not sure who is respon...

Re: Slanted Date?
Thank John and John. For the newbs knowing the way the various years were made is an important part of VAMing. Knowledge is king. John and John, based on the facts of the hub and punch described, would that eliminate or modify the VAM 15 listing in the 83-O series? I have yet to find the VAM-15 and ...

Re: Dave700x
Dave was a kind soul. I first met him in person at a show after I had just purchased an 83-O DMPL and he happened to walk up during the purchase and noticed the date and then introduced himself and asked if I was who he thought.

Re: 1883 CC Help
If the chip, broken punch, ( not doubling) in 3 does not match a listed VAM it is a different obverse Die. The only difference I have seen is due to wear or strike on the 3 when the punch is just starting to break. The two pictures of the 3 in the post of the possible VAM and the coin in question ar...

Re: She never really had a chance
This appears on several of the 83-O Vam 58 die pair and on coins that did not appear to be a full strike. I wonder if this would suggest a planchet issue during the use of this die pair? Just realized it always occurs on the lower obverse and sometimes on lower reverse. That would appear to rule out...

The guy on the video says black curly hair, looks like an Asian or Mexican, really? Maybe in a few more generations this thought process might start to fade away. I’m not sure thought is is the right word.

Thanks for the help guys, sometimes it’s right in front of you. I did not look close enough and thought it was just a couple of gouges in the denticles when I saw it in my posted picture.
