Re: Ssdc award approaching

Have at least one set in the SSDC Registry, although certain awards are open to members of the VAM community who have made monumental (lifetime achievement award type) contributions to the hobby.

Re: PCGS 2021 pops keep going up

Total number of coins graded is nearing 35,000... MS70 percentage is down to 85.17%... and some real low grade dogs have begun to appear:

Re: Raw vs Slab

The way I look at it is, how much less would I pay for a raw coin? And for me the very broad answer is a lot less. How much less depends upon the coin, the date+mint mark, the VAM, and the perceived grade. But some coins I won't buy at all. The reason is because I certify everything that I want to o...

found this on a 2021-CC

I was taking a pre-submission look at 2021 Morgans for a fellow member of our local coin club when I found this on his CC coin. This is the photo I took: Dennis pix.jpg This whole area is small, raised, and is definitely not surface debris. It's easier to see in hand and a real PITB to photograph. I...

Re: 1921-P D2 polishing (VAM 3DV EDS)

Tom:

I have 3AN1-2-3 and 3DV.
3AN3 (and perhaps 3AN2) qualify IMO for what 3DV2 appears to be in terms of obverse cracks.
If you'd like to borrow any of them just give a shout.

Re: OT: help reading old engraving

H L I G Thank you sir! On the chance the club might also be in Rhode Island, I just did a search of the state's town names. There's only one that starts with an H: Hopkinton. But it turns out that F&B specialized in making "smalls", so they undoubtedly shipped their products far and wide. Meaning N...

OT: help reading old engraving

Can anyone decipher/confirm the 4 initials below? They're engraved on a sterling cup I've had for years, which was obviously a presentation of some kind. The engraved date is May 12, 1906 (less than a month after the San Francisco earthquake and fire) and the recipient was Clifford W. Chapman Jr. Th...

Re: 1880-p ms 63 vam 7

A tremendously rare VAM in any Mint State grade, and this sales price obliterated the old record of $3,120 for a PCGS-61 at Heritage in October 2020.
Wow. :o

Nearly 15,000 total coins graded now... 95.4% are MS70.
The D in D-Mint, based upon my own experience, stands for Dogs.

Re: my 2021 boxes now open

Mailed my 32 coins to PCGS Nov. 3 (Modern Value service and no B.S. label designations for $18 more each.)
PCGS logged them in today (Nov. 12).
I'm not expecting results until the end of January – and I'm really hoping for a 'Genuine-rim damage on one of the Ds.

In the meantime

Here's an interesting submission

This submission makes you wonder if the person who submitted these (results were gleaned from the "shared orders" page) was really this clueless? Thinking his/her 1895 proof was real would have involved declaring an estimated value that would require the Walkthrough grading cost tier ($150 each). fa...

No, my advice was to poke it with a stick... a gentile action that is OFTEN suggested here to investigate what otherwise appears to be loose material. But thanks for lashing back at me with a disproportionate response, it lets me know you don't actually want input or comments here and I can ignore a...
