Re: What is the correct term?

The term I first heard about 25 years ago was "orange peel". I was told it's fairly common on 1901-Ps and I've seen it many times since on that date.

Very prescient of you. No wonder you're so good at predicting coin grades!

My reaction is also handling/circulation, not cleaning.

Re: Anyone know anything about Jeff Oxman

I talk to Jeff 2-3 times a year; it's about time for another call. He and his wife built a second home in the local mountains a few years ago and had been spending quite a bit of time there even before Covid hit. I know they were laying very low during that whole period. Every time I talk to him he ...

Re: ANACS grades in

Ah, I understand now. As far as buying Ds goes, I never bought them in any grade before this little project, other than the odd Unicorn and TRU_T cherrypick. I didn't collect them by VAM before, so I have no way to compare what I'm finding now. I do get the sense that almost no seller pays any atten...

Interesting!
Those are nice, clear center dividing lines that I've never heard of or seen before.

Re: ANACS grades in

Thanks, Dennis Would I be safe to speculate (on the Bay) that you will continue your efforts involving those very few 'JOH' s that do remain? ( pronounced JOE) Yes... if I can get my hands on identifiable examples. With decent, clear photos of scribbles and meaningful PUPs I can make a strong new V...

That's the most legitimate candidate for being graded 0 as I've ever seen in any holder.

Re: ANACS grades in

nice sub. what have you found to be different/same harder/easier from holding back on grades to keep the hunt alive? Not sure I understand what you mean about the "holding back on grades" part. The hard part of what I'm doing is the incredible lack of scribbles photos. I don't don't mean decent pho...

Re: 1878 VAM 196A ANACS MS63 Value?

PCGS is nuts, and it wouldn't surprise me if they mistakenly thought 196/196A were 8TF varieties. My database has very few sales for either VAM, which I think is due to lack of market demand and collector interest more than anything else. I'd be hard pressed to estimate the value at more than $25 ab...

Re: Coin Divesting

Hoo-freaking-ray!!!

I emailed Ian a few months back, giving him examples of coins currently in GC auctions that were attributed wrong by NGC and PCGS – and stressing that the consistent accuracy by VSS is better than both of those companies. I'm pleased that my nudge may have helped. :D

ANACS grades in

coins in holders copy.jpg My biggest submission ever (by far) consisted of 38 1921-D Morgans, which I’ve been fooling around with this year to help improve the scribbles guide. Due to the massive increase in MS63-64 prices during Covid, I’ve rarely strayed from the AU comfort zone. I attached my ow...

Great scribbles! Great scribbles in both wings! And an awesome gouge in the left wing! (It's EDS, so there are zero cracks). Can anyone help? small 4213684 scribbles 1.jpg small 4213684 scribbles 2.jpg small 4213684 wings.jpg small 4213684 left wing gouge.jpg small 4213684 line at N.jpg

Re: 1878-S Morgan with VAM-7

Some interesting features, but it's a common VAM even in Mint State grades and is not on any of the well known collecting 'lists'.
Sorry, no premium.

Return and bad review stating photos are clearly doctored . Though it is easy to see the pics are doctored .
