1-pix 1895-S scribbles guide

There are 8 different 1895-S VAMs. I lack VAM 6, so the VAM 6A photo below has to do double duty for it. Just imagine the scribbles/polishing lines being bolder, since VAM 6 is an earlier die state. (I wish the posting system allowed bigger photos to be posted, but you'll just have to increase the s...

I believe your coin may be a VAM 1BH (things get more difficult to identify as the grade goes down):

Having a D1 reverse will make identifying your coin much easier, since there are only about 1/3 as many D1 VAMs as there are D2s.

Re: 1921-P First known Example Vam 110.

The raised lines in and around the recesses on either side of the eagle's right leg (viewer's left) are mint-created "scribbles" that were done by hand to fill in the voids. Because no two are alike, they are effectively a "fingerprint" that identifies each 1921-P VAM (and well as 1921-D, 1921-S, an...

why doesn't PCGS care?

Accuracy. Reliability. Consistency. Confidence. Trust. Reputation. Attributing VAMs is a risky business. Some are painfully subtle, which is why the more different VAMs a grading company tries to identify, the more chances there are it will get some wrong. And when it does, the errors are right ther...

Doesn't ANACS give + grades?
The VAM 121 looks nicer than a straight 62.

Re: Another "re-identified" VAM - 1921 VAM 3FS "Discovery" now listed as VAM3ED???

There are currently over 460 different 1921-P VAMs. The identification of duplicates – and removals of some previously listed VAMs – happens at least a few times each year. It is inevitable that there will be more.

Knowing John, I'm going to guess it's an 1878-P 8TF.
And the dot in the left arm of the Y must be his super-secret 'pickin PUP for this VAM.

These older format message boards were always my fave . They are just not all that much fun to administ...
