Re: help me NOT send to LVA

This is my coin #47 (D2) (not a whole lot to work with, and I suspect the big chunk in the right opening is Mint debris that will not dislodge when poked with a stick, which I have tried several times):

help me NOT send to LVA

These are the only four 1921-P coins I couldn't attribute out of a batch of 151. I have been through the various scribbles and die crack guides 3-4 times for each one, as well as looking through Crae and LVA's original scribbles book. My hope is that some of you will be able to identify some or all ...

Re: this will keep me busy (results posted)

Here are the 2 known VAMs mentioned above (confirmed by scribbles) that have new or missing features that merit a look by LVA: This is a VAM 3AA ("Spiked Arrow Shaft End)... except it doesn't have the spike: 1921-P VAM 3AA no gouge.jpg And this is a VAM 35A ("Die Gouge L") that also has gouging in t...

Re: this will keep me busy

Here's the final list of attributions. 1 got 147 out of 151. – 4 coins are unknown, are presumed new, and will be posted in a separate thread. - 2 coins are known VAMs, but have significant missing or extra features that could/should get new designations. 1AA 1AB 1AC1 1AE 1AH 1AJ 1AO 1BG 1L (LDS, no...

Thanks for updating that, Brent!

I think the decimal makes sense. Numeric suffixes are used for stages; with the decimal, it usually means die pair number.

I was not aware of that. Thanks for the education! :)

Re: 1921-P VAM-3P

Thanks for the update and the heads-up! I fixed mine... one 3P.1 and two 3P.2

Why is a decimal point involved? Wouldn't 3P1 and 3P2 be easier?

Re: I finally found one!

Congratulations! 41A continues to be a very difficult coin. :D

I've managed to find two more examples since I started this thread -- an MS63 in a PCGS holder that says "VAM 41" (what a joke; VAM 41 relies upon scribbles to be identified) and an MS61 in a PCGS holder that says "Pitted Reverse".

Re: 1892 S VAM?

PCGS does not attribute all VAMs, only a relative handful... and even then you have to tell them which one it is.

Re: 1892 S VAM?

Have you compared your coin to each of the known 1892-S VAMs on their attribution pages? There aren't very many different VAMs, so looking at each of them is what I'd do.
