Confused by the paper trail on these. This thread indicates no tail feather gouge on 3A1c. The 3A1C attribution page heading very clearly says and shows that it has a gouge at the tailfeathers -- "1921-P VAM-3A1c Scribbling Die Scratches, Spiked Tail Feather, Die Gouges Stage 1" The old thread was,...

If it has the gouge from the tail it is either 3A1C, 3A2, 3A3 or 3A4.

Here is a 3rd example of a 1921-D that PCGS has attributed as a VAM 1A TRU_T that is so not it's ridiculous. The NGC site has a cert. lookup function, and closeups of this coin were available. I'm curious what made them certain this is an 1882-CC, since the tops of the numerals are so distorted.

Just a follow up - this coin is back up on EBay right now. (I returned it previously with explanation showing it was incorrectly attributed.) I just contacted seller, who said they had sent this coin back to NGC and questioned the VAM 8 assignment. NGC re-holdered it and returned it, again as a VAM...
