Re: An uber-nerdly 1921-P set

So, were the Hot50 list came out before the Top100? Or they just don't know the difference? Regardless, they are very nerdy cool, Dennis :D . I try to not make too much sense out of what PCGS does or has done, unless I'm looking for an excuse to have another glass of wine. They may have even ...

An uber-nerdly 1921-P set

41A in pitted.jpg 41A in 41.jpg 41A in 41A.jpg I know… the title is an oxymoron. Just about any 1921-P set is pretty nerdly. :ugeek: Many 1921-P VAMs have pitting on the reverse, ranging in severity from “wow!” to “where is it?” For most it is a feature that PCGS will identify on holders using coin...

My best ‘pick in years

This just arrived in the mail. I’m still in disbelief. I always look for this VAM, but it’s the first one I’ve ever found. It is also one of my best cherrypicks ever. :D 38587208 holder.jpg I noticed it the same day it went up for sale on eBay – in an actual auction (!) in the massive ocean of Buy-I...

Worse than Northridge?
My wife and I were in San Diego when that one hit. It was a 6.7, so it was stronger. But we didn't go through that one from as close as we would have if my wife and I had been at home. The one in Boise tonight was 6.5. It was strong.

Re: OT: earthquake in Boise, ID

A-ok here, but it was a good one, right up there with the biggest I'd experienced in SoCal.

OT: earthquake in Boise, ID

We had a good one 30 minutes ago, the second strongest one I've ever been in and that includes the Sylmar, California quake in '71. Early report is 6.5 magnitude.

Re: Morgan 1921-P VAM-3GO VLDS

The VAM 3GO is duplicated by the VAM 3HO, unless Dennis has taken steps to revise that listing.. I am in the process of trying to. My most recent submission to LVA was received in December a few days after his latest deadline kicked in. It is still waiting to be opened, but he did send me a postcar...

Re: Morgan 1921-P VAM-3GO VLDS

Yours is an even later die state coin than mine.
Mine doesn't have either of the reverse cracks you show, but the horizontal gouge between the eagle's body and left wing is bold, as are the two vertical scribbles you describe.

The coin I am calling a 77 (I don't have a 69 or 69A) matches the photos you have posted.

Re: 1922 Morgan Peace VAM

I would not get it graded, because the value of the coin is less than the cost of grading and postage. (This is the case with nearly all Peace dollars in circulated condition.)

And no, being in a case does not prevent closeup photos from being taken

Re: 1922 Morgan Peace VAM

The coin looks much better. The gunk below the date is gone, as well as the gunk around RTY in LIBERTY.
But whatever is in the center of the coin is... interesting.

Re: 1886 VAM 20 REPUNCHED DATE

I was an underbidder at $30 so I could see where it finished. I also didn't like its overall "look".

The relisted version has an opening bid requirement of $950, yet the description says, "BIDDING STARTING AT .99"

Re: Is your 1889-P VAM 22 clashed?

I had to go back and investigate the long line on the chin after oldcollector called it a scribble.
He was right! And the long one has several friends closer to the end of Liberty's chin.
I totally approve of this new feature!

Re: 1922 Morgan Peace VAM

Acetone has no effect on silver and is widely, commonly used. A coin can soak in it for weeks or months. It dissolves petroleum-based residues. Just be sure to use a sealed container and avoid breathing the fumes.

Sure it is not a misattributed 19A?

Yes. I double-checked before posting... no crack at the date and 3 full denticles of space between the point of the neck and the first 1 in the date.
