Re: 1888 S VAM 13 - Rev Gouges
Welcome aboard Jim. VAM 13 is, perhaps surprisingly, not too hard to find. I've seen them in PL and in grades up to MS66. Premiums tend to be modest and highly inconsistent -- and very dependent upon things like overall eye appeal, whose holder it's in, and whether it is attributed. "All the money" ...

Re: Anyone heard from Cascade Chris?
I've heard stories about a Cascade Chris, but I thought they were a myth.

Re: Leroy Update
Does anyone know/recall approximately what year he stopped listing filled letters?
Here's another 1921-D with a partially filled T. It's on a VAM 1U:
And this is my personal favorite (1893-CC VAM 4):

1921-P: solved!
There isn't a lot on this late die state D2 coin, but the lines under OL in DOLLAR are compelling, as is the crack through the R. Plus, there are a lot of scribbles remnants.
Any ideas?

Re: 1921-d vam 9A
Have never owned one - tough coin for sure. Not being on any "list" I hesitate putting a monster value on it. Value is in the eye of the beer holder on the one that sold. Jim It's in the PCGS Morgan Super Set and almost nobody has one. That $6,100 sale is the only one I have ever seen in 16 years o...

Re: Scarface questions
– How long did it take the crack to get to that extreme point? – And how many coins might have been struck when it did? I can’t image it was very many. After all, wasn’t the die doing its best to split into 2 pieces? – Or did the clash damage perhaps not go unnoticed at all? Scarfaces never seem to ...

Scarface questions
Being housebound by choice (lots of snow over the weekend, but shoveling done) and feeling lazy (a perk of retirement), I decided to revisit a longtime VAM favorite. I feel lucky to own an 1888-O VAM 1B Scarface. In 25+ years as a fairly serious collector it is by far the most expensive raw coin I’v...

Re: 1878 8TF VAM 21 Value?
21 and 17 are perhaps the two most common 8TF VAMs. So in my opinion no premium is deserved.

Re: Another USPS adventure...
I just now received a status update text from USPS advising me that expected delivery of my package is Friday February 12.
According to online tracking it's still 5 states away and it's been there since Wednesday.
Gotta love efficiency and accuracy.
