Re: Group Question. We all have that one...

Any acid treated and die chip(s) for 78s, 79s, 80s, 81s and 82s. Unfortunately these are not that easy to locate. So even after a number of years of hunting, only been able to locate less than 50 in total.

Re: 1882-S lesson bears fruit

Dennis - I just found an example of this VAM-16a. My coin is the same as yours, well at least it matched your photos.
But I do have a concern in looking at the VAM-16A page. The reverse shown there is different, especially the mm placement.
What do you think?

Re: 1882-O Could this be my ticket to fun in Fla.?

I don't see anything of interest other than may be a small lamination on the 2 of the date.
You said you found the coin, so you didn't pay for it, right? If that's the case, you are at least about $14 richer :D .

Re: Interesting GSA dollar

There are a lot of 79s and 81s with weaken or overpolished leaves adjacent to left star and above ONE on reverse. Just my guess. Neat find regardless.

Re: Privately Made Question

IMO, it has to be after 1900 due to the fact C4/C3 and C4 rev was not introduce until then.

Re: 1881-S VAM-1B vs VAM-67

Mine matches your die polishing lines. I think messy is correct. It was probably missed the 1st time it was listed. So potentially, vam 67 should be vam 1b1 and those with die chip rev should be vam 1b2. But that's Leroy's call.

FWIW both of my 1Bs have the tick.
Is that mean you actually have VAM-67 LDS instead of 1B?

1881-S VAM-1B vs VAM-67

VAM-1B comment section: Apparently this reverse feature occurs during the late die stage of VAM 67. Saw examples of VAM 67 with and without this distinctive break. It's unclear if all VAM 1B's share the same obverse. More research is needed - vampicker. VAM-67 Obverse description: First 1 doubled on...
