I've always wondered what tool would cause that. We are talking small gouges on a small die. Excessive grit on a die polishing wheel? I have no clue.

What ever caused that is the same thing that happened to the V1G reverse, on the other wing. SF Mint had an engraving whisperer in the first few years.
