Re: 1885-S VAM-6 Denticle Impressions?
do you have that coin in-hand? the odds of those being raise are pretty small. i don't know how much you know about vams/coins/errors etc but i think there is a STRONG chance the hits just pushed up the metal a bit. that kind of thing has been posted here and sometimes it can appear very deceptive. ...

Re: 1878s VAM-109
What Lew said. But it sounds like you already have all your answers. My 5 vary in detail from vf20 to au55. Again, sounds like you need to post some pictures. Your attitude is why many rarely want to help some folks. You got all the answers and ask for, with a VAM King attitude, someone to tell you ...

Re: 1878s VAM-109
Your second question was order of production. Discounting it now is fine. But it matters as being 1st used on V109 then there is very little chance of a heavy polishing to create the die state you asked about. You are seeing what isnt there. Thanks Lew and Ln for your contributions. They probably ha...

Re: 1878-S Vam 62 (Long Nock)
Tim, The BIN was $235. If it grades it will be a home run. Sent it off to PCGS this afternoon. I love hearing that. I looked at 78S VAMs for 3-4 hours aday after working a 12 hr day. The hunt is more than the results. Thats what I think VAMs are about. Its about finding that special coin for common...

Thats a big coin. There wont be many in higher grade, if it grades. Hope it grades for you. We all want to know the BIN price. lol just for a kick in the ass for us who paid going money for the VAM.

Re: Stolen coins
That sucks , Fogie. I lost only one coin over the years. An 82-O in 65. All I got was the priority envelope sliced open and no coin. I feel blessed thats all I got got f-ed on. I hope for the best results for you. Was it UPS, USPS or another carrier? The USPS people know coins are involved and its 5...

Re: New 78-S ??
78-S VAM 116 Great job, Lew for spotting a known reverse with an unknown obverse. I look at the plate photos and cant obviously place it as a V95 reverse. It obviously is and shows how different pictures show our Morgan Dollars. A different look from your pictures.. What a great find and should put...

Re: New 78-S ??
Sure looks like a V1C/95 Reverse to me. I cant place the obverse to 1C or 95. Is there a goober on the R of America like 1C/95? It sure looks like the B2a Reverse. I hope you get e new listing and not a die 2 of this or that. Its amazing to me that new die pairs are coming to light. I thought the 78...

Looks like a V49
EDS by the looks of it. Nice find. Dot on forth inner feather of left wing and a gouge in eagles mouth.

Re: My Almost 1st VAM Pick
ARS_1902-O_VAM45A_1st.jpgI was early in my VAM education. Had a local Mom&Pop B&M shop close to the house. They would let me go thru any and all Morgan & Peace dollars they had. This is one of my most valued treasures from my early VAM days and I still have it after the liquidation sale earlier thi...

Re: Scarce EDS of 78-S VAM 16 now VAM 16A
Not sure I agree with the separate listing. I also think Leroy lumped many Obv/Rev dies into one VAM with D1,D2,D4,D4 and D5, which I dint like either. But the new standards will be good for the hobby. 78S dies have many new listings coming in the near future. VAM46 is one I can think of with the ma...

Re: 1878s Vam 111
I credit much of my success rate in determining the correct attribution to imagination. Keep us updated with your V111. What is your success rate. I've been doing 78S VAMs for better than 15 years. Im not better than .500 and closer to .300. I have a few 78S VAMs. These guys are trying to help you ...

Re: 78-S V-86 Die 3
I've always wondered what tool would cause that. We are talking small gouges on a small die. Excessive grit on a die polishing wheel? I have no clue.

What ever caused that is the same thing that happened to the V1G reverse, on the other wing. SF Mint had an engraving whisperer in the first few years.

Looks like 24,30,or43 reverse to me. That was from memory and a guess from pictures. Star is broken and an engraved wing feather .
