Re: Vam identification purely from placement of design elements
Wow, maybe read it all again. John, I will extend my sincere apologies. I have always had much respect for what you do. I mistook your sarcasm. I saw this post ending like so many others, without any serious debate. I was proved wrong. Im glad to read the debate and serious discussion that has foll...

Re: Vam identification purely from placement of design elements
It works well in practice, but whatever. You don't approve so it must be wrong. I never read what you wanted to read in Rogers comments. Seems discussion and debated are not allowed on this site anymore. He clearly stated "His Opinion" and because it doesnt follow what the few who run the show now ...

Re: 1878-S VAM 16 and VAMWORLD - PCGS Designations
The 16, 16A & 28 should have die scratch in wing and chip on eagle's breast. 20 will not have scratch and will not have chip. If you think you are looking at a 16, 16A or 28 without these then please show us the picture here on this discussion forum. None of them are rare -- the 16A is the most dif...

Re: The 78 Acid Treated Funky Feather We All Ignore
Never realized Philadelphia produced any coins in 1878!! Are any of them worth collecting? lmao The Funky Feathers always refer to the San Fransico Mint. Now I need to reevaluate everything I ever thought I knew about Morgans. I now know that I know Nothing!! Thanks for raining on my parade. I bet ...

Simple answer is its a sickness of obsession. When you need to find and document every set of dies, or combination of dies, used for a particular date/mint.

Re: Sizable 78-S hole filled!
So.This VAM 110 Means nothing to me.I see no major variety for this 1878 S Dollar. :geek: Scott, this is just another Die Pair in the 78S set. We would all agree with what you said. it was taken as you meant it to be though. But this guy isnt one of those who could use a reality check, He is a coll...

Re: Sizable 78-S hole filled!
Well done!!! Big coin in the 78S set. Every discovery coin led to another being found. Then another and another. Some stop at just a few examples because of that damn Pitman. But it proves a few are out there and its not a die state. I can see you working 8-12 hours a day and spending 5-6 hours a ni...

Re: My own 78-S head scratcher I need help with (please)
It's already been confirmed that they share the same obverse. The listings have been revised. VP is correct. I have my coin buried deep in the back 40 in a mason jar. But im positive that the die scratch on the forehead is a 100% die marker for the V110 , for the V112 Your die chips on the reverse ...

Re: 6 rolls of Spitting Eagles!
Been staying away from the CC Mint coins because of all the hype. Should have bought my high grade 82, 83, and 84 coins a few years ago. I'll wait for the next slump for them. Looks like the time for the 91 CC though. 64 is the top grade in my mind. Been collecting the rarer coins in 65 for a few ye...

I dont believe it. They never minted any Morgan Dollars after 1878. We all know this to be a fact.

Re: Have you ever been "VAMboozled" ?
I remember the early days of collecting Morgans. I learned quick that there are 3 ways to learn. Paying, pain and knowledge. I still get suckered for a V16 every once in a while, because of bad pictures. Its much worse when a 3rd party grading company gets it wrong.
