78S VAM 112 Struck Through ?
Opinions on Mint Struck or PMD ? Grade is subjective and if you have an opinion I will post results when it gets back from ANACS. Also have a V-113 and V-1i with a few other gems of 78 to go out as soon as they do another Dollar Frenzy !!

Re: 1878 S Vam 112
Thanks Pete, If it wasnt for your post and the pictures of the die chips then I would have passed it by quickly as just another fish on the bay. I'm hoping it is a struck through at neck/chin. MS 61-ish , there are two good bag marks on face and neck. Am I correct than this is no longer a Wiki where...

Thanks for confirming, Lew. I had second thoughts after I hit the post button. PMD in the sweet spot had me questioning everything.

Re: 1878 S Vam 112
I remember this find and needed to get better pictures of full coin and the breast chips. I remembered this post had pictures. Surprised none of those great pictures made it to the VAM 112 Page. Great find, Pete. The Sucketh be with you on it.

19, 35, 74, and 93. Your coin was struck early in the progression as the serif on the R disappears in later pairings. I've said before the VAM can almost be identified by the state of the R. Good luck in your quest to VAM your coin.

Re: 1878S VAM-31.....??????
Your welcome. I used to have most of them memorized. What this date mint really breaks down into is engraved wing feather or un-engraved wing feathers. On the engraved coins it further breaks down to the broken or not R in TRUST. Un-engraved wing feathers is where the fun begins. Craig and Leroy's G...

29 and 31 share the same obverse die. The gouge in the U can be seen from space.

Re: Sometimes you have to limbo and go low
Its hard to understand just how rare some 78S VAMs are. You nailed the 1G D3 and now this one. Persistence pays off. You get it. Nice job
I was surprised Lew doesnt have one.

Re: Suggestion for a new SSDC set - 'B' reverse set
Perhaps break it into smaller sets. I know the un-engraved B2 Reverses is quite a set in itself. JMHO
Edit to clarify I meant 78S B2s without the " worked over reverse die" by a mint employee.

Re: 1878-S VAM-1C Die Chip R, Reverse Die Used in 1879 (Reinstated 2015)
Roger, Good to see you contributing here. I dont think the TPGs other than ANACS , who does all VAMs, would spend the time on a series that until just recently was relatively cheap to collect (79S-R78). But I see where you are heading and the variety has gotten expensive to collect in any MS Grade. ...
