Re: 1885 Vam 9a?

So much to be said, but... giphy.gif I do have to say this: Levi, the attitude shown above is PERFECT bridge burning material. Why would you post pictures and ask for attribution help, then, when you get the correct answer instead of the one you want, say "How can you decide that with my crappy pict...

Let me look thru my 1879-S, 1880-S, 1881-S and 1921 (s) - I am sure we can get you there!
Don't "look through them" Brent, that's JB's job!

Re: difference between die scratch and die gouge?

Basically a very subjective difference Bert. There may be specific guidelines that split the two, but if there are Leroy has bounced back and forth across the line many times over the years with listings. I say anything that is as thick/heavy as that (v16? 28?) is a die gouge, in spite of the offici...

Re: 1895-O Vam 3a

Among 95-O's the 3a is pretty common. It made the list because of how cool the placement of the rust makes it look... and it has a cool nickname... and because a 95-O adds some meat to any Morgan collection.
It really brings a smile to my face seeing that "WOW!" label slapped on her! :D

Re: 1881-S VAM-1B

This is a weird one for me. I have found several, but I'm not willing to say it is "common" among 81-S's. I think the lowest grade I've ever found was an MS64. I own or have owned 1 in 64, 2 in 66, 2 in 66+ and an MS67. In other words some dedicated searching and patience will net you a gem eventual...

Re: 1890 o VAM 1B, EDS

Wow! If I hadn't seen the date I would have guessed 1889-P VAM 23A! Almost but not quite Dennis... this one was definitely one of the last cuts on the list and, if it weren't for the fact that my own status of "clash junkie" already made the set heavy on clashers and being that this one also has a ...
