Re: Interesting 1902-O

Re: Interesting 1902-O

I found some time to look a little closer. Here are two possibilities for gouges on the eagles right wing. Neither is very wide and deep, but they could be considered gouges. Scratches, thread-like impressions and gouges are sometimes used in place of each other, and it seems to depend on the year a...

Re: Interesting 1902-O

No problem. The reason I asked was because I thought the photos of the 66A were yours, and was hoping you'd still have the coin? Thanks Asian for the help.

Hi Alan (@LateDateMorganGuy) - Any chance you'd have insight into the die gouge that's supposed to be on the 1902-O VAM-66A?

Re: Interesting 1902-O

Wow, you guys are great - VAM-66A it is. I do remember this photo (which just kills me now), but the profile doubling is so strong, I focused almost all of my attention on these groups Normal Date with Doubled Profile - C4 Near Date with Doubled Profile - C4 So, why is the (strong) doubled profile n...

Interesting 1902-O

I stumbled across a 1902 O that stumped me, and the more I looked at it the more interesting it got. I wonder if someone here can help. LFCP provided below, followed by my attribution notes. I'll try and post a couple regionals too, and a close-up or two of a feature if necessary. (beveled denticles...

Re: Die Markers / Class Question and "that 97O"

Might be worth a trip just to let it be known it exists. Even if it isn't labeled as a new 6 sublisting directly, it would still be helpful to be photo'd and added to the collective knowledge base. It's a completely different reverse progression, so might be helpful to be photo'd for future researc...

Re: Die Markers / Class Question and "that 97O"

The previous post included the OBV LFCP if you’d like to see the date placement. Oops! While cleaning my pics folder, I see the OBV LFCP was not posted. It was ready and waiting in case someone asked, but no one did. Sorry for the mix-up on my part, and also for bringing the post back to the top of...

Re: Die Markers / Class Question and "that 97O"

Thanks Morganman! I fear I’ve been learning some of the aspects that I already understood, and am relearning them here. I remember a cracks and crack patterns being misleading conversation. Too old or CRS, I don't know (or can't remember). LateDateMorganGuy – Your response is great. It hits on exact...

Re: Die Markers / Class Question and "that 97O"

The EDS of V6A/6B by default is a V6. The EDS of V6C is a V6 by default. The die pairs of V6A/6B are different than the V6C. The coin used to list the V6 is unknown, meaning the die pair used to list it, or die pairs, will never be fully known. The V6 is a die classification, meaning multiple die p...

Re: Die Markers / Class Question and "that 97O"

Two items not seen in any of the photos of listings for the VAM-6 series are below. Gouge/Line in denticle and raised metal (polishing) at Left wing tip. 97O_WingTip_Gildy.jpg Dot in STATES between T and A, and crack/break above A. 97O_DotBreakA_Gildy.jpg Just for fun, here's the interesting crack r...

Die Markers / Class Question and "that 97O"

I managed to capture a few photos of this 97O. But ran into a Fundamental question, I'm seeking help with first: If all the fine die markers shown in VAM-6 match this coin, doesn't that mean the coins shared the same physical die (not juts die class)? And if that's so, then how come the crack patter...

Thanks Chris.
Yeah, that was the rebel in me I guess. Last chance to use the cute nickname before the change in nomenclature is final. 8-)

Re: First buffed reverse?

My collapsed die #1 (first buffer) came in the mail today, and I couldn't help myself - I had to take a couple quick pics.
Yes, indeed, it sure was cleaned. In fact it's so bright and shiny I have to squint to try and gauge what the grade would be. But "who cares" - I finally found one. :D

Another 97O VAM-6 die pair?

I was looking for a 97O VAM6B recently but found this instead. 97O_Rev-c_Gildy1k.jpg As many know 97O in MS can be pricey, and there aren't many varieties known, so when I found this one with major cracks and possible breaks that didn't match any known varieties, I thought it was worth a chance to l...

Re: An 1921 S, that I was able to attribute

Hi Bert. Small world (again)! It picked up one of those myself last week. Not as pretty as yours for sure, but I think you'll want to take a look at 6A. It's on the Hit List 40! [update]: I read your subject too fast. You're saying that you WERE able to attribute it? Then you know it's a 6A no...

Re: First buffed reverse?

Yikes, this turned into something I didn't see. But, for me it's a great education. I love the history of the hub and die during it's life. How the hubs and dies are both steel and one needs to be hard and the other soft to transfer the image. The fact that they soften at different rates in differen...

Re: First buffed reverse?

Welcome to my addiction... I joined VAMworld-01 in 2012 and it just so happened there was a discussion about the '83-O 1C at that very time. It was a life (collecting) changing moment for me. I managed to find a raw LDS 1C2 shortly there-after and continued to search for this holy grail. Along the ...

I guess I have a lot of catching up to do. What a coincidence - the buffed reverse list came up just over a week ago.
