Or they are tanking the program so they can shutter it without any meaningful opposition.

Re: Mintage for 1894 dollars

without going back and doing any checking, seems I remember a mintage of 110,000 for 94P. I can see that the figures for aug, sept, and oct make up that sum. Do you have any info on what the other "spurious" 972 coins from the other three months were from? Thanks so much for your info. You always ha...

Re: Proof of existence? VAM-130 or 185? (1878)

all you need to do is send an example of the 4a to LVA that has the clash and is of high enough grade to delist. piece of cake, right?

I can assure you complexities exist in getting coins delisted..

Re: 1880 P 1A series

Here's the rub. I had a PCGS 58 that had the crack going all the way into the hair with some displacement. Leroy called this coin the earliest stage of a 1A2. It did not have a fully broken Knob, only the triangular pre-knob. It was LVA's call, The thing is, even though LVA called it 1A2, PCGS WOULD...

Re: Do you think you have a Doubled Die?

Machine doubling damage steals from the design to create a “doubled image.” The coin is still in contact with the dies while being ejected. However, in the case of die deterioration doubling, as has been mentioned, the dies become damaged due to wear and tear, and repeated attempts to polish the di...

Price GUIDE Update

I wanted to let everyone know that I am deeply sorry about the fact there is no prototype Price Guide yet in place for the SSDC. This damn Corona Virus really took a toll on the world and while you would think it ought to make it easier for me to finish the alpha pricing- It has not. I've never been...

Re: The ever interesting O/CC VAM 8 progression

BRABJOHN, Thank you for that post! It took me a while to find the "smoking gun" for the die progression, but I finally got the "one and done" for it. Yes, this progression does indeed go , VAM 8, VAM 8A, VAM 8B (with deeply clashed reverse), VAM 8C, VAM 8B (with polished reverse, but still fully cla...

The ever interesting O/CC VAM 8 progression

So I was tinkering with my coins today and I stumbled on something I had not really paid attention to in the past. The VAM 8 1900 O/CC progression is really cool! So, it certainly seems to go VAM 8, 8A, 8B, 8C, but I started looking at my coins and looked at a couple VAM 8B coins and while they all ...

1878-s VAM-7 unusual?

Is this coin more scarce ? I have not seen this coin in NC so I bought it. Amazingly, I agree with the holder it is in. Does anyone know about theNuGrade service ? I’ll post the pics as soon as I figure out how to do I in the mobile app.

Re: Interesting Information

I am going by memory but I think it was 12000 business strikes and 880 proofs. And the entire lot of business strikes were melted leaving only the proof coinage. I know this has been wishfully disputed but the entirety of the remaining coons appears to be from 4 pairs of dies. JR might be able to ad...

Re: Scare Of My Life

Mike,
I could not feel for you more. I wish you a speedy recovery and no more mishaps. Take it easy and look at a lot of coins. I used an event to learn the 8 TF Morgans by heart a long time ago. It has been so long ago I need a refresher...

Take care.
