Re: 1964-P Kennedy DDO FS-102: Meaning of "FS"
I really can't thank you all enough. This hobby is deeper and richer than I think most casual collectors ever imagine, thanks to the work of folks like "VA", "M", "F", "S" and others (like many here at Vamworld) who have spent countless hours looking through loops to expand our knowledge of coins. I...

1964-P Kennedy DDO FS-102: Meaning of "FS"
I have many 1964 Kennedy half dollars, 11 in mint sets. In one mint set, I discovered what may be the "DDO FS-102" identified in the PCGS Price Guide (must click the 1964 date then the varieties "drop down" into view. The first to drop down is described as "DDO FS-102". The FS apparently means "Firs...

1923-D VAM-1AF3 Rusted Reverse Die
The VAM page gives this description: "Raised dots from rusted die at top legend and motto letters with some fine die file lines across letters." My 23-D shows the raised dots and there does not appear to be another VAM with a rusted reverse die, though 1AF1 and 1AF2 would presumably have the same ru...

1923 VAM-1AI2 Die Gouge Above T, Die Break Y?
My 1923 shows the die break from hair bun to Y, but I do not see close shoulder clash (which David Close says is on his two coins).
Also, I do not see (either in the photos on the website or on my coin) a "die gouge above T".
Do I have a VAM-1AI2 or something else?

1891 VAM-6B
I own an 1891 VAM-6B. The VAM listing for 6B indicates "under review". Can someone give me the Cliffs Notes explanation of what that means in general and specific to this variety? If you can point me to an explanation within the website, I'll be happy to look. Thanks in advance.

I noticed this VAM is carrying a note "Under Review". What does that mean? Thanks.

1924 Long Obv Die Scratch
Scratch runs from top left of G in GOD, through O, through field, through lower neck, through T in TRUST and stops in field above R. Not seeing a VAM and not sure if these are listable.
Also a long reverse die scratch from I in PLURIBUS to back of eagle's mouth.

Thanks for the reply. Answer to do I have any discoveries: no. Sent a couple to Leroy last year and/or 2018. Nothing of late.

Re: 1923 Unlisted Die Break?
I'm not clear on why the break on this 1923 is not listable. When I look at 1CG and 1DD, both with die breaks at the bottom of the neck, I don't see much difference and, if anything, the 1923 here has a more pronounced break with some silver oozing through a small spot in the line. Is it just not la...

1923 Unlisted Die Break?
Is this an unlisted die break or not a listable feature? It is not listed as a die break variety. Could this break be a diagnostic in another '23 VAM that I am just not finding?

Re: 1925, Educate Me
But I don’t see a beak break on the 1AB so this is a different reverse than the 1AB.

Re: 1925, Educate Me
The 1AB is a listed rusted worn right reverse.
The obverse of this coin does not have the die scratch through the Y as seen in 1AB. So it’s not 1AB. If this coin has the same reverse as the 1AB but a different obverse die, could it be a new listable variety?

1925, Educate Me
Help me understand what I am seeing on the reverse of this '25 Peace dollar. It appears there is substantial die wear and pitting that was heavily polished away leaving the remnants of that wear and pitting and lots of polishing lines. Is that what I am seeing? Question: Prior to the heavy die polis...

Re: 1925 Unknown VAM with Two Die Gouges
Dr. Close, one last question. Does your VAM-3 have a diagonal die scratch originating in the D and rising through the rays above OLL? I provided a photo of that area (my eyes are not picking up any doubling of right sides of rays and right side of D; maybe you can see it). I'm looking forward to see...

Re: 1925 Unknown VAM with Two Die Gouges
Thank you, David. My coin has none of the doubling of VAM-3 so I’ll send it to Leroy.
I’m curious: the VAM-3 listing does not mention or show the obverse die gouge; how do you know the gouge is on the VAM-3?
Thanks again.

Re: 1925 Unknown VAM with Two Die Gouges, Heavy Die File Lines Neck
I'm adding this photo of the neck-jaw area showing heavy die file lines in the hope that, along with the obverse and reverse die gouges, someone may help to identify this VAM.
The obverse gouge is above and to the left of I of IN.
The reverse gouge is between rays right of middle olive leaves.
