Re: 1924 VAM 1BB

I have a raw 1924 that I believe is a VAM 1BB, I attributed it as such based upon the clash marks above the Eagle left shoulder at the second ray, at the right shoulder, along the ray above the A, and to the right of the leaves. I will try to get some photos up later. The image of the E is incuse an...

Re: Obscure third party grading question

I have even seen PCGS graded coins that are graded MS65 that are obviously an AU58, and AU58 that is undoubtedly MS. I agree, buy the coin. I personally hate the grading companies (all of them) and trust none of them. Obviously, some are better than others. My personal view is also that it is absurd...

1935 Peace VAMs 1E and 1J

Is it possible that VAMs 1E and 1J of the 1935 Peace are different die states of the same VAM? I have what I believe is a VAM 1E, but it also has a small vertical die gouge below V of TRVST. There isn't much about the VAM 1J, but even looking at the photos on the VAMWorld site, it looks like there m...

Re: 1924 VAM 1R, something in 4 of date

The spot on the wing is useful for attribution, It appears to be a retained gas bubble, which, to me, is what the area on 4 of date appears to be (being a planchet error). If someone finds a duplicate, then it would be a neat die variety. OK, thanks, but what about the thing above the bubble in the...

Is that a feature that is helpful for attribution? Or are you saying it is an addition unattributed feature?

There also appears to be doubling of the ONE, if that would help identify the VAM.

Re: 1924 VAM 1R, something in 4 of date

Could this be VAM 1P , check the die file lines above the 2 . Your 4 area maybe a planchet error . No, I don't think it is a VAM 1P, file lines are different between B and E. There are certain file lines that I think line up with VAM 1R, although, this does appear to be a later die state and from a...

Ditto, poke it with a stick and maybe soak in acetone. I agree with the squirrel, looks stained in the 4.
By the way, I did poke it with a cotton swab and dabbed it with acetone.

Re: 1924 VAM 1R, something in 4 of date

Thank you for your responses. Sure, maybe not a VAM 1R, but the vertical file lines on the nose seem to line up exactly with the online photo. However, what I am most curious about are the effects on the 4. Yes, there is staining on the coin, but that is flat. This stained round spot is definitely r...

1924 VAM 1R, something in 4 of date

I have a 1924 Peace, I have decided it is a VAM 1R. Photo is below of this coin, trying to match photo of VAM 1R photo as much as possible. There is a raised circle at and below the crossbar of the 4 of the date, and in the triangle, there is a curved line. My thought is that there was a strike thru...

Re: 1921 B over S in "PLURIBUS"

After viewing the close-ups I’m 100% positive your eyes are playing a cruel joke on you. It is a regular ol’ B with a combination of contact and toning. Nothing more, nothing less, sorry. That same joke was played on every person who has personally examined this coin. That being said, pareidolia ha...

Re: 1921 B over S in "PLURIBUS"

If you really want the truth about this coin, send it to JB (aka; messydesk).... We have seen this sort of thing time and time again. Like I said, the mind is a funny thing. Once you think you see something, it is very hard for your brain to see that same thing a different way. It takes a flexible ...
"I don't care what I hear" is almost a game-ender for me but I suspect this was an old habit of reacting to what was happening - if you didn't truly care you wouldn't be asking for input. Re: 1921 B over S in "PLURIBUS"

Here are some details. No Die cracks. No scribbles in eagle crotch area that I can see. Maybe some damage vs post mint damage near the eagle's beak. A tiny die chip in the e of we, and some filing gunk around the trust, but is minimal. Possibly some minimal doubling in STATES OF, but probably strike...

Re: 1921 B over S in "PLURIBUS"
The truth is in the VAM. Your statement that the VAM is irrelevant is wrong. If this is an S/D from the Die, then it is an S/D on every minted coin of that same VAM. We find the VAM and compare the D on every example of that same VAM, then we know the truth of that VAM and die. That’s the w...
