Re: can an AU55 coin be PROOF LIKE

I have an ANACS Au58 PL.

I found an example of a NGC AU58 PL Here--> https://www.pcgs.com/auctionprices/item ... 5534512491

There is a PCGS AU58 PL in this population count. --> https://www.pcgs.com/coinfacts/coin/1890-1-pl/7197

I can't seem to find a 55 yet.

Re: "78 8TF VAM-9A Possible new die state??

I appreciate your taking a look messydesk. Maybe somebody should put a notation or mention in the listing of known examples with a weak second clash??? I still consider myself new to this and not privy to do such things. The "comma" or "kidney bean" shaped engraved feather has taken a direct hit on ...

Re: "78 8TF VAM-9A Possible new die state??

Thank you for that Vam-mysterio! Thats what I suspected. I also forgot to mention that the fine die cracking around the outside of the reverse is nearly complete on this specimen. It's not so much so on the other 9A I am holding right now, nor is it as complete in the listing photos I think... but i...

"78 8TF VAM-9A Possible new die state??

Hi all! I recently stumbled on this 1st die pair Morgan and need advisement as to whether call it a 9A & move on or send it to JR or JB so they can look at it. It's an XF coin now that appears to have been SPL when minted. There is PMD to the signature "comma" feather but it has all the markers. My ...

Re: Interesting counterstamp. Anybody seen this before??

Thanks!

I considered a coin hit but am unable to find another US coin with any kind of edge features that match. Plus the two "W"'s or "M"'s are different from each other.

The edge of the U close to it is perhaps flattened by the edge of a punch??

Curious to see what concensus says.

Re: 1888-O help, Blob Line in O

Hi Silver Token, I hope somebody more knowledgeable posts on this. I've looked through a bunch of 1888 small O pictures and have seen several marks with similar lines and raised areas. I've attached one photo where it is on the other side of the opening. My speculation is this may be a common charac...

Re: Help with doubling... 1883-S

Thank you so much GL and Gary!!! Your input is greatly appreciated and I hope one day I may be able to return it! The location of the mintmark closely resembles that of VAM-6 but this one appears to be tilted ever so slightly right in comparison. There are some die chips in the IGWT on VAM-6 that ar...

Re: 1888-O help, Blob Line in O

Hi SilverToken! I'm pretty new to this, so take my opinion with a grain of salt! There is little to go on here with just the one photograph. I've looked at it closely and I do see what appears to be a straight line, left of center, from top to bottom inside the O. In enlargements I've done I can't s...

Did you look at VAM-17?

Look in the denticles below the first 8.

Re: Is this 1880 p A VAM? I’m learning/new to VAMs

Hello!

It could very well be a VAM-21 which does have a doubled date. Its hard to tell in those photos.

If the feature i circled is indeed the die chip marker it is a 21. The date is in the right place.

You can view VAM-21 here > http://www.vamworld.com/wiki/1880-P_VAM-21
