Re: 1881-S VAM-2 with Die gouges in loop of bow?

That certainly stands out. Notice the first "rim" as I call it, and outlined in my pic, does match but your lines are absent. I can't explain it. Maybe it's the future 2A.

Re: 1881-S VAM-2 with Die gouges in loop of bow?

The ribbon could be a match. I thought you might have PMD but I think I can make out what appears to be two ridges thru the listings ribbon that could be enhanced with different angle or better lighting. I would set my scope/camera at the same magnification level as the listing and try to match. Som...

Re: 1881-S VAM-32 with Die gouges in loop of bow?

I didn't think your MM matched 32 so I went looking. I think you have a VAM 2. Pits in her hair D seem to line up. The only thing I couldn't account for was the ribbon. Give it a look.

Re: Is this an RPM?

As far as I know some mm can have doubling but yours doesn't appear to have any as far as I can see but I could be incorrect. Though It does appear to have some die fatigue/die deterioration to the left of the mm, and Is it a 1885-S ?. Negative. Hmm, :| How about an 89-S? If this were charades, I'd...

Is this an RPM?

Got this beauty in today. Can't nail it down. I'm terrible with doubling but MM can't be doubled right? Any help or guesses at the coin appreciated. More photo's available upon request. She'll be out for a few days. I will also share its a 188X and far date.

Re: 1921 B over S in "PLURIBUS"

The effects I think I can make out around LUR and ONE D can be seen on other coins. I don't know how it happens or what its called but its fairly common. It's like the letter slid a few millimeters. The B over S thing you described can't be explained. A closeup might help. Otherwise you'd need to ge...

Re: 1921-s vam 1B3A PCGS 63 Thorn Head

Ya I understand that I was just trying to help Marky b know the why of this one Oh, I've known the why since I was told of a value guide. A value guide behind a pay wall. That's fine but what happens when those same people kill VAM 1B3A or any other VAM? What's its value now? Now you're thinking......

Re: 1921-s vam 1B3A PCGS 63 Thorn Head

Think he'll take it? But seriously, never heard of a "VAM value guide". I use the PCGS price guide for a wag value and it lists the 1B3. If you want to pay that type of premium for a change in polishing lines, knock yourself out. I'd never do it. I'm still at $195. Good luck.

Re: Is there a way to....?

The 14 VAM is extensive. Is it laid out in order of progession thru the various dies? My 1878 8TF double eye does not look like my 1887 VAM 12 Alligator Eye yet both are considered doubled. Maybe it was discussed. My tail feathers don't match the VAM 14; either side. Why? Different reverse probably ...

Re: Is there a way to....?

I get it. These things happen when you change servers or formats. I dont criticize anyones motives or abilities but only wish someone would make a decision as to whether or not these type links will be restored, and if not, delete the references to them. I have no idea who has the administrative acc...

Is there a way to....?

Reactivate or fix a broken link to a thread? I picked up a 78 8TF today and its a 14.1A. The links to discussion of this VAM are broke and I'd really really like to read them. Am I SOL?

Re: 1896-P with die scratches

Thanks All. I got this coin 6 months ago while searching for that 2nd 96-P 4B. Seems I'm always a day late but nice to know there are discoveries about still, and Jody got the cred. Believe I found a V-14 but there are no pics so that will go up next for review. Still think this looks like a O mint...

Re: 1884 very far date?

My rule of thumb:
<2 denticles=very near date
2 denticles=near date
2.5 denticles=normal
3 denticles=far date
>3 denticles=very far date

I would consider yours a far date. There is a guide under attribution 101 and a range for each term.
