Re: 1898 Vam 10 or 12?

VAM 12 it is. Thanks for all the inputs. I'm traveling to upstate New York today where there's no decent coin shops to bide my time. Boooo!

Re: 1898 Vam 10 or 12?

It's all good. Just hoping someone with a VAM 10 would chime in and confirm or deny. I always check my inventory if/when these things pop up. With so few VAMs for the date, I'd be surprised this slipped by the guru's so it's probably on me. Otherwise, it's going in my records as a VAM 12.

Re: 1898 Vam 10 or 12?

Ahhh there's a big book huh? I knew not everything was posted here but not a whole nutha tome. I guess I'll forever be begging for scraps. Maybe someday it will be on shelves next to the Cherry Pickers guide. Thanks for the morsel UB. Another pic:
Little too deep end of the pool without a plate photo for V-10 . Is below the the cotton leaf an exact match of the v-12 polish lines ,like finger prints ? Not sure if anything is in the big book , or what the broken links said either , but good luck in your quest sir!
It is the sa...

1898 Vam 10 or 12?

I picked this up thinking I was getting a 10 but the lines around the cotton leaves match 12. Those lines, as near as I can tell, are the only difference between the listings. Then I got to thinking they are the same coin. The links in VAM 12 don't work so apologies if this was already addressed. I'...

Re: 1880 VAM-49 with a dot or die chip in eye

I would call it a 49; particularly if you confirmed the left leg scratch is there. I imagine the eye anomaly was either too small to list or is worthy of a stick poke.

The crack pattern around your date matches some pictures in the VAM 15 listing.

Re: '23 D VAM 1CI LDS ?

It's certainly a 1CI. The break appears more severe on your coin than the listing so I'd say it's certainly later but I imagine all VAM 1CI coins would need to be examined to determine if it is LDS. I don't see any in the ANACS population report so you may have a true VAM rarity. Nice catch.

Re: 1922 VAM 2C1 EDS DIE BREAK

Thanks for the post as it prompted me to go back and look at my own. The 2C2 listing has a nice writeup and apparently there are 4 stages. The last two are more a barrette than extra hair. We both appear to be stage 2. This coin was my first breakout of a details coin that came back straight graded ...

Re: 1885, VAM ?

Check out the second full coin shot of VAM-1, you will need to enlarge it but see many similarities. I did too but then the listing goes on to say both VAM-1 LFCP's were relisted as other VAMs and this one doesn't match either one. Thanks for looking. I imagine it will go in the book as a VAM 1 any...

1885, VAM ?

No clashes or doubling. Seems to be a near normal date with distinctive hair D, wing-neck gap but couldn't find a match. Crack at first left star goes into the denticles. Her eye and LIBERTY are indistinctive. Sorry, can't do LFCP's. Appreciate any help.

Re: 1884-O, VAM 8

Without an 8 to compare it to, I'm going to say it's not but would like to see an 8. After confirming the cap gouge is there, I'll record it as a 21A. I'll assume the two mint marks were compared and deemed different although LVA's letter for VAM 8 mentions a curved hook at the inside. Two eerily si...

1884-O, VAM 8

Just wanted to share todays adventure as the listed pictures don't do it justice IMO. This is one chippy lady with an intersting MM. The chips actually trail up along her hair almost to the ear and another group between the 2nd and 3rd left stars. I thought seeing the overlapping reeding was interes...

1885-O, VAM 9

Just a shout out to whomever did the detailed workup on this VAM. I got this in today and thought I had a plain Jane when looking thru a loupe. Then I noticed the artifacts in both 8's lower loop and how the 5 was lower than the 1. Really appreciated the commentary on how the underdigits came to be....
