Re: 1880-S 4th Right Star Question

Yes as to the VAM 33. IMO, there's nothing of note about the star. If anything, I would call it staining.

Re: can't find right vam

The reverse looks off or maybe the photo is warped. Eagle appears offcenter and right wreath looks larger than left. Counterfeit comes to mind. Otherwise, the date looks nearer than any near date tagged listings I opened. The "O" looks upright and left; also not listed. It's very difficult to match ...

Re: A Short Story - 1897

Initially I had the date as a doubled 9 and didn't see the 1 although it's now painfully obvious. The pitting is hard to see from straight above but angle the coin and BAM! I must learn to wobble my coin as I search.

A Short Story - 1897

My aquisition of VAMs has slowed considerably but I make a point of trying to ascertain the VAM when buying a coin to upgrade my collection. Tonight I received a 1897 just because I liked the look of the coin. Some months ago I read something JB said about identifying VAMS strictly via a loupe so I'...

1923-D Peace, VAM 2

VAM 2 is heavy on reverse doubling but not much is mentioned of the obverse other than a Die 1 (cracks) and Die 2 (CUD). Mine is ANACS attributed, probably Die 1, but I have what I consider breaks and not cracks plus another break right of "Y" (like we need another one) not mentioned for Die 1. Coul...

Re: 79-S B2a Study

Ah, a bunch of left-handed people I imagine. But seriously, the progression thing is something I'd like to eventually understand so I appreciate the post. I'll be looking at it quite a bit over the next few weeks. Thanx JB

Re: 79-S B2a Study

This novice could digest that a little easier if it wasn't in a right to left format. Is that a numismatist thing? I did like seeing that census for this date in the attribution guides. Kudo's to someone.

Re: 1921-P New VAM?

I'd love to help but could you plz break it down to a 16 or 17 berry, necklace variety, etc. Maybe the date position if it helps with that year. Wick-neck gap always helps and maybe any observed cracks and/or clashes. If you can move your light source, try to bring those scribbles out. TY

Re: 1922-P Thoughts

2EQ looks similar but I don't see the bun crack in the full coin photo's. The high reflectivity of the photo may be hiding it. It may helps us find it if you determine B1 or B2 reverse. GL

Re: 1881-S VAM-2 with Die gouges in loop of bow?

That certainly stands out. Notice the first "rim" as I call it, and outlined in my pic, does match but your lines are absent. I can't explain it. Maybe it's the future 2A.

Re: 1881-S VAM-2 with Die gouges in loop of bow?

The ribbon could be a match. I thought you might have PMD but I think I can make out what appears to be two ridges thru the listings ribbon that could be enhanced with different angle or better lighting. I would set my scope/camera at the same magnification level as the listing and try to match. Som...

Re: 1881-S VAM-32 with Die gouges in loop of bow?

I didn't think your MM matched 32 so I went looking. I think you have a VAM 2. Pits in her hair D seem to line up. The only thing I couldn't account for was the ribbon. Give it a look.

Re: Is this an RPM?

As far as I know some mm can have doubling but yours doesn't appear to have any as far as I can see but I could be incorrect. Though It does appear to have some die fatigue/die deterioration to the left of the mm, and Is it a 1885-S ?. Negative. Hmm, :| How about an 89-S? If this were charades, I'd...

Is this an RPM?

Got this beauty in today. Can't nail it down. I'm terrible with doubling but MM can't be doubled right? Any help or guesses at the coin appreciated. More photo's available upon request. She'll be out for a few days. I will also share its a 188X and far date.
