The seller’s pictures look a little juiced. I am curious how your pictures turn out. The coin looks way too nice for a 63cameo.
It does. All I can think is that when you tilt it right a bunch of hairlines pop out at you. Those are easily hidden in photos, especially blurry ones.

Re: Encouraging Article in NYT

Thanks for posting. Glad it wasn't behind a paywall.

There are definitely several disjoint worlds of collectors. Those crying doom and gloom tend to be unaware of this.

Re: OT 1884 PCGSPR63CAM

Do you have the coin in hand yet? I hope it's as nice as the seller's pictures. PR63 is the bottom grade I'd recommend to anyone buying a proof Morgan, but that looks really nice.

Re: Were all 1921-PDS Morgan dies basined or not?

RogerB may have a quick answer for this, but if I recall, the mint correspondence for 1921 is sparse, as much was discarded. No citations, but few commemoratives would have lent themselves to being basined after the Lincoln half in 1918. Rochelle, Rochelle, maybe, since there are special looking co...

Not sure where you saw the photo. Change history on that page shows there was never a photo there. I found Leroy's photos and uploaded them just now.

1880-O just got a nice makeover

All of the LVA Photos on the 1880-O pages have been replaced by his original annotated photos fresh from his archive. No more photos of paper printouts or stray stripes from a printer. Thanks to Wayne, Geoff, Fogie, Gary, and Andy for updating all the pages with 188 photos that should make attributi...

Nice, the user’s profile also has some spam links. Not sure if you can suspend privilege while they fix their login security.
It's a spam account and will be removed.

Re: Leroy Archives Update

I just uploaded about 190 files for 1880-O (gotta start somewhere). I'll send lists and instructions by e-mail tonight to everyone who was interested, using either the e-mail I have on file or the e-mail address associated with your VW account. These date back to 2004, so there may be some that end ...

DPIS added to Attribution 101

What's that, and why? DPIS stands for Date Position Indexing System, and offers a more precise description of the lateral position of the date than is given in the VAM book. In addition, it uses the base of the 1 relative to denticles as its landmark, which should be familiar to everyone collecting ...

Re: 1923 D VAM 1X2

Probably not. I imagine someone sent him the VAM 1X2 in 2010 because of the break above the 1 that wasn't mentioned on the VAM 1X1 because of the larger break by IN, causing him to list that break separately. Three years later, someone realized that the break above the 1 was there before the one by...

Re: Need help with an 1881-S

The first 8 looks legitimately doubled on the lower right. I'd start with that, because that's probably your best hope at attributing it. This is a horrible date to attribute because of all the die fatigue and machine doubling.

Re: Beveled Field Capped R

Will a "beveled field" still be a listable die feature or just used as a die marker? Short answer is that it's not listable on its own. The longer answer lies in the rules for listing die stages. I have a VLDS 1921 D VAM 1B1 with displaced field breaks : above and below tip of bust top of E and abo...

Re: 1921P potential duplicate listings

VAMs 3GR, 3HC, 42 seem the same. 42 as shown is a later die stage than the coin shown as 3HC. Will probably make these 42 (no break at F) and 42A (break at F).

Re: clueless about this 1921-S

It looks like the slab took it hard in the scribble zone. Can you polish it or at least smear some oil on it to make it easier to see?
