Re: 1921-D JOH-25 Small Breaks D, S and S
The huge problem is, the 1921-D Die Crack Break Guide is horribly not up to date. Only 77 different VAMs are represented in it, out of the 228 that currently exist. I would like to try and help fix this somehow. Any ideas how I can contribute? I own 3 raw, circulated 1921-D that you folks have seen...

Looks like VAM 148, then.

Re: Again, I find I need some help w/1879-S
I'll probably list it as new. Waiting to hear from other 79-S specialists. The bit pointed to in the R above is just a hit on the coin.

No VAM number is assigned without me seeing the coin.

As much as 1921s drive me nuts, congratulations on this well-deserved award for the dedication it takes to pursue, assemble, and document a set like this.

Re: 1925-P with a weird font on the date?
They look the same to me. The thinner one might be thin because of machine doubling.

Re: 1923-P VAM Question
First things first, there's no such thing as multiple VAMs on one coin. It's a common misconception stemming from a misunderstanding of what a VAM is. A VAM is a specific combination of an obverse and a reverse die that can be told apart from other such combinations. The way we tell them apart is by...

Re: 1891-CC VAM-3 (or is it - HELP!)
Yes, it's VAM 3. I don't see any actual doubling in your pictures. There may be machine doubling, but you might also be seeing reflections on the coins taking on the appearance of doubling.

Re: 80 O possible duplicate listing
VAM 80 was discovered by Lawrence Lane. I'd agree they're probably the same. I'd want to see clear pictures of a coin showing markers that match both sets of Leroy's pictures.

Re: Interesting Seated Obstruction Error
I'm assuming the poster meant it went to encapsulation and did not cross. Same thing happened to me once.UNCLE BINGO wrote: ↑Fri Jan 27, 2023 2:24 amNo i understand that part , he said crossover . like it was already in plastic , I thought they returned them if they would not crossover .

Re: Interesting Seated Obstruction Error
I've had a crossover go to encapsulation and did not grade.. How does that work ? I thought if they would not cross they were returned  Encapsulation is the next step in the process after grading. If nothing in the submission is to be encapsulated, they're done immediately and forward it to Q...

I'd have to think that encapsulation means it's real, but I suppose it could mean "we're putting it in a body bag."

Re: 1885-S VAM-6 Denticle Impressions?
Just checking. If anyone has a 85-S VAM-6, can you check the reverse upper tail feathers and see if your coin has the same "dots"? They look raised to me which means they are incuse on the die, and could be spaced the same as denticles, i.e., denticle impressions. I might add they are repeatable on...

Have the parts of the coin been weighed to confirm that the planchets involved were the right weights?
