Juan,
I think you may be right on the obverse die. There are the 3 lines in the hair 'D space' and bear claw. What I thought was the Vam 25 chip between T & Y is much smaller than pictured. It's more like a small bump in that spot.
Thanks for clarifying, you have a good eye from a photo.

Re: 1888 New Orleans Mint dollar dies destroyed/returned
Roger,
Thanks for the detailed description of how the process worked back then. The parceling of the needed dies over the year also explains the gaps in Die #'s. Didn't know that but makes sense to keep centralized control of the dies.

Re: 1888 New Orleans Mint dollar dies destroyed/returned
Question for the experts and forgive my ignorance. When I see the gap in Die #'s, i.e. NO received Dies 10 - then 25, does that mean Philly or SF received/kept and potentially used Dies 11 - 24? When the Dies were made from the Working Hubs, were they just consecutively numbered #1 - XXX

Re: 1879 S Rev 78 Vam 25 Value
Wow, thanks so much for researching & publishing recent prices. So it appears to be a much sought after 79 S Rev 78 VAM and/or not many high graded. I just wanted 1 for my Morgan collection when I purchased about 20 years ago. Based on NGC Gen holder, guess it was slabbed around 25 years ago. I read...

Re: 1879 S Rev 78 Vam 25 Value
Although not attributed on the slab and not a Vam expert by any means, but 99% sure its the Vam 25, has the die chip between the T & Y in LIBERTY and the die markers in the nostril. Also the reverse has the severe rusted die chips in the wings and engraved feathers. 79 Rev78S obv (2).jpg 79S rev 78 ...

1879 S Rev 78 Vam 25 Value
Received a monthly CDN Greysheet (first one in the new format) and was greatly appreciative of the Morgan Vam price guide, what a welcome addition. Was updating my inventory and saw the Vam 25 had the highest value of all the posted 79 S Rev 78 Vams, $2,000 for an MS60. Is this anywhere near accurat...

Wow, great find and nice job with the dip, luster still appears present and you removed 99.9% of the dark tarnish preserving the coin never mind appreciating its value. How did you see that O/S with those pics.

78P 7/8 TF Strong Vam 40 EDS or something else
Was reviewing my vams and wanted to confirm whether this coin was a vam 40, just very EDS. Appears the vam 40 is 1 of the more difficult 7/8 strong vams to locate. Looking at the pics posted. this coin has no die cracks on reverse and no 'V' gauge by ICA. Realize coin reverse has a lot of circulatio...

Thanks, had it originally as the 1A1, but the latest photos posted of vam progression also led me to believe it is a 1A1-4

Re: 1891-O V1Ax - a lit'l guidance?
Thought I knew which 91-O vam I had, but now I'm confused whether it is the 1A1- Stage 3 or 1A1-4. Using a 30X loupe, there are 2 die cracks between the A &T on the reverse, but not as pronounced as pictured in the the Vam guide. Also the break bump is polished down with a noticable chip in the cent...

Re: VAM Help 1900 - S
Upon further examination, appears my Vam 18 is half way to 18A. Doesn't have the obverse extended "E" from the double break to the star and only 2 of the 3 stars have the break. The break at the lower hair is also just starting. On the reverse, only the "E" and second "L" have the die chips.

Messydesk,
Thanks, that's it. Not sure how I missed it, spells it out perfectly.

VAM Help 1900 - S
Being identifying VAMs for my collection and couldn't find the VAM for my 1900 - S. It appears to be a very near date which is not common for the date. It has a die break on obv between E and P. S looks normal on reverse and reverse doesn't appear to have to have any die breaks. Both sides appear fr...

Agree cleaned, but was it overdipped and also lightly rubbed on Liberty's face and the eagle breast feathers or just 1 of those 2?

FS - 1878 P Rev 78 VAM 197 ANACS MS62
Not attributed but nice Vam 197 in an older white ANACS holder. Has all the markers. Has that gold & blue rim toning common on the older ANACS holders.

Re: How Long Have You Collected our Beloved Morgan Dollars ???
Started buying Morgans in 2003 with a GSA 84CC as the 1st. Then purchased about 350 of them over the next 5 years, primarily EBAY. With the many dupes, had a 90+% collection in slabs, these were the best, 95+% raw in my Dansco album with about 25% broken out of slabs, and 90% in a LOC album, which w...

Re: Dents in coins
Agree with the details grade, been cleaned and those dents are too obvious. However as mentioned, they are key dates and still a lot of design on the coins. Enjoy
