Just vammed my 1884-O as a vam-7A, but mine also has double clash marks in all the usual areas, but was not really mentioned on the 7A page save for a pic below the BUS on obverse. Just wondering if this is a new vam-7B or should still be lumped in 7A? It could also be a LDS that acquired clashing l...
Ok, got to a place where I could take some photos... This coin of mine is more likely dipped, and no cartwheel effect observed, but is highly lustrous. This coin of mine also has that typical flat, insipid San Francisco strike so common for that year.
So seeing some of the 10 or so 1900-O/CC vams, kinda makes me wonder if any of the reverse CC dies match up with any known reverses of 1893 or earlier, or were these simply unused dies for any given date? I have seen several other ideas tossed about on this topic, but not this question to my knowled...
Took me a moment to sort out this riddle, but I narrowed it to vam 14.2 EDS. I ruled out 14.2A and B since I didn't see the feeder finger gouges. It does not appear to have that die scratch at LI of Liberty though.
I've had this one for a few months and it is my first 8tf and trying to pin down a vam number and the lower grade doesn't help. It seems to have a match of vam 14.15 (I know, one of the rare ones :) ) as it has a die file line in about the same location as the photo on the 14.15 page. I might be see...
Ok, finally had time to get some more photos down, a closerup of a few more features. Like a closeup of the date area actually revealed another strike-thru below the 2 in the date :!: I am wondering if that right side of the wreath shows weakness in the design die to die polish, or would this have b...
I just picked up a really gorgeous 1921 vam-39A in mint state (my second dotted 21!) When I glanced at the F in OF on the reverse, the bottom of the letter has the die marker jut-out typical of the vam-3's. Now looking at this vam 39, I see the same jut-out feature, so this begs the question, do all...
This was the other Morgan I picked up, since I never seen an actual clip (with the Blakesky effect) in person before on any of these dollars, knowing these errors are quite rare in the Morgan series (correct me if I am wrong). A bonus goodie if I may add is there is a small rim cud directly below th...
So this appears to be a vam-12 on some points, but this begs the question, are any vam 12s known to be prooflike and EDS? Reason I say is that this is not an exact match to the vam-12; my coin doesn't have the same level of die cracks as the page of vam-12, nor do I observe that fine die polish stre...
I don't think it's cleaned when rolled around in the light; it's really reflective (prooflike) in protected areas, and I know many of these marks are most likely bagmarks. I looked again at vam-12, somewhat close, but does vam-12 have that die scratch above the mintmark on the bow region? It could b...
I have for the 1921s, those I know, but I can't find the 1900-S, unless these are filed under some of the subheads on the home page for the 00-S. So far I can exclude all of the non C4, C4/C3 reverses, and the non 2 berry reverses., but no real matches unless I have a LDS/EDS state of one of those v...
