With the discovery piece in hand, I can confirm you have a VAM 5A, and in a later stage than my example. The overpolishing at the initial and lower hair is not on my example. Probably not enough for a separate listing but certainly worth noting on the page.

Based on the slanted date and the break through U, I'm reasonably certain it's somewhere in the VAM 5 family. The break is so hard to see. I have sent the 1st one I found. Both Johns have discussed it and they want to see a much less circulated version thinking there may be doubling hiding.

The majority of what I've dug through has been beautiful coins and if the scratches are still that prominent after circulating, I'd love to see it mint.

So I keep looking.

Recently purchased this coin on eBay. Couldn't tell a lot from the photos. It wasn't until it was in hand that the problems started. In hindsight, I probably should have known something was up since it is an oval O. It has rounded edges where devices meet the field but, -It doesn't ping when dropped...

Yeah, it's missing from the date position page but it is on the main page and the oval O page.
