Many thanks to LDMG and UB for their responses. This confusion is largely averted in the Large Cent regime as every die and die pair is given respect along with (O)die number, (R)die letter & (pair)Sheldon number. In this instance the subject coin is a III2 3 /C3e and the Web page exhibits a III2 2 ...

I believe it is a VAM 46...After looking for the 3 vertical lines at the bottom of the eagle's right wing, I came up short, because there were none on the subject coin that I could identify (see image (1) below).
