Mark Kimpton Discovery Coin Collection

Hi all, 10 years ago I bought a large collection of coins from Mark Kimpton, the author of the book "Elite Clashed Morgan Dollars". (It was a big pop, but he was nice enough to let me make installment payments over the course of a year. ) There are 123 coins in the collection. 23 of them are the pla...

Re: Large Vam Collection on Heritage

The live auction was interesting. Thanks to everyone who bid: I hope you got the coins you were wanting. I'm going through and releasing all of these from my inventory in the SSDC registry (and that is a real pain in the butt. :) LOL, all my beautiful sets evaporated like dust in the wind. I'm down ...

Re: Large Vam Collection on Heritage

Today is the day ! The live bidding for this auction starts at 6:00 PM central time today. Be there, or miss out on the chance to scoop up some great VAMs to upgrade your collection. If you have never participated in a Heritage live session, the action is fast and furious. It typically takes 30 – 40...

Re: Large Vam Collection on Heritage

Hmmm. As an FYI, the listing for the 1878 VAM 44 (King of VAMS) which I have for sale isn't completely correct. This is a VAM 44A, the clashed version of the 44, which is even rarer than the 44. It has clashed letter details on BOTH sides of the coin; a strong N next to the neck, weak "s,t" in the h...

Re: Large Vam Collection on Heritage

Keep on bidding Dennis! I'm seeing a lot of $1 bids. Of course the action will heat up (hopefully at lot ) as it get's closer to December 15, and there will be a "live" bidding round at the end. I wish everyone well in their quest to get some nice upgrades, but I don't have any reserves, so I ...

Large Vam Collection on Heritage

Hi all, I'm a long time VAM collector (30 plus years), and I'm selling my collection through Heritage, in two "waves". I bought Mark Kimpton's (Mr. Clashed Die :) Discover coin collection years ago. This includes several of the plate coins from his Morgan Clashed die book. That collection will be up...

Lol, great timing. I picked a 1879-S V45 off an auction site last week, and it came in this afternoon.

Re: 1878 VAM 41C MS 65 The Bearded Lady

Nice! I love the bearded ladies. The clash detail on these just jumps out and grabs you :o

Is this in an NGC holder? I've picked 3 or 4 of these over the years, and strangely they were ALL NGC slabbed. One of them was even listed as 7TF. God bless their hearts.

Re: 1878-S VAM-72

Sigh. I have a similar affliction. I just got a "cheap' LN on Ebay, to keep my PCI 20 V27 and PCI 15 V57 company.

It isn't details, but it has been around the block several times. Pretty sure it is a V 58.

Great, great pick, and a beautiful coin.

I can't believe the dealer didn't see the tripple leaves and boles, when he took his final look. They just scream "look at me". :o

Pickin' and grinnin', verse 1

You can still find some nifty picks on Ebay, if you can tear yourself away from the vast array of massively over priced "Extremely Rare VAM"s which aren't . It reminds me of the line in the Princess Bride movie. "I don't think that means what you think it means".

I878-S.

Re: Morgan Grading Question

1883-O is an excellent example. They are typically God awful strikes. I'm with John on this. Market grading is BS, but they do it. This is my 1883-O VAM 22A. It is PCGS MS63. I can live with the grade, thought I have plenty of PCGS MS64 coins in other years that aren't any nicer than this one. Howev...

Re: Central States Show in IL

Cool. I have at least 35-40 more Morgans for you to attribute (mostly 1921 scribble scratches). I'll bring them with me.

What night is the feed ?

Central States Show in IL

I just booked my room at the convention center. The reservation lady said the rooms are filling up fast :).

Who's planning on attending the Central States show in Schaumburg this year ?

Re: Tone removing help

I've used Koinsolv. I've had both the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat when breaking out toned coins and dipping them. I've gone up from MS 62 and 63 to MS65 on some relatively expensive Silver Dollars. (That would be the thrill of victory). And I had a 1883-S in a PCGS Holder at MS63. It h...

Re: 20000 in 2020?

That works for me. So what you will be getting is 36 coins in PCGS holders which need your VAMSEAL service, and 0 coins for the bulk submission :). Sorry for the confusion.

Send me an invoice at [e-mail address redacted for security reasons], and I will go ahead and mail your check.

Re: 20000 in 2020?

JB, One VSS attribution is coming your way right now (sort of accidentally) along with 35 coins for the next PCGS bulk submission. I screwed up and sent you a PCGS VAM that PCGS doesn't actually attribute, the 1885 V23A (doh). If you could just VSS attribute that one and hold on to it, I have about ...
