Re: Legal or Not?

I had an attorney stop in my shop today, and I showed him this tread. He stated the provisions within the law prohibit the striking of coinage for commerce. This also covers counterfeiting of any US negotiable notes, coinage, or debt instrument. The recently passed US law that was passed i.e.: "Hobb...

Interesting Progression of the VAM 14.2

Well, I found a 3rd coin for my 1878 P VAM 14.2 group. All 3 coins are proof like. The 1 st coin on the left is a "true no die gouge VAM 14.2" this coin was a DMPL or PL when struck. Coin 2 is was an MS 63 PL in an old ICG holder and now is in a PCGS MS 62, "This coin is PL" just not on the holder" ...

Re: Legal or Not?

The group of tokens are not in violation of any laws. The 3 gold pieces have the metal type and purity rolled into the edges of each coin just like the modern dollar's edges. For general information, restrikes of canceled dies are 100% legal. The law that we are looking at, as well as case law from ...

Re: 3 Fresh Rolls of Carson City's Plus

The reverses are hands down better looking than the obverse. I will post the grade report when they come back, you can VAM about 7 of then just by the obverse. You have a few VAM 3-d R-7 coins, but that VAM is not really an R-7 personally, as well as a few VAM 2 b's and c's.

Re: 3 Fresh Rolls of Carson City's Plus

Nope, just was laying them out and I didn't wish to drop them on a hard table. I was sorting in grade order before re-tubing them for submission.

3 Fresh Rolls of Carson City's Plus

Well, this mini hoard just came in and will be at PCGS in the AM. 1 single roll of 1882, 1883 and 1884 CC Morgans along with 2 rolls of 1881 S Morgans. No VAM 2e or d's and no VAM 54 b's but nice coins all the same.

Re: Grade this Group #2 !!

OK every one here is a PCGS XF 45.

What's really funny is look up on coin facts the AU 53 and put one of them next to all 2 in both posts and that coin looks to be on the low side of the XF 40 group. John B was the closest on both treads BTW

Just Back From Leroy

Well a few years back I had sent in a group of 1878 14.2 8 TF coins. My thinking that the reverse die is the last uses and the later die states have 2 different displaced die breaks, one on the obverse and than the reverse. At the time I had collected 3 PL or ones that should of graded Pl and 3 that...

Re: New 1921 Morgan ?

Sorry Dennis, I forget to log in some times while I am looking over posts, so I missed your message. On this VAM they almost always catch the "A" where you have some of the mint mark present, but they seem to miss the "B" somewhat often. I find it humorous, more because while the 1921 P and D minted...
