Re: 1924-P worn die ?
Quality control for Peace dollars was at a low ebb. All Treas Sec Mellon wanted was to replace the Pittman Act bonds as fast as possible.

Re: How Morgan Dollars Became Indian Ruppees
If you want real information and not some abbreviated cut-n-paste, look for my article: "The Pittman Silver Purchase Act 1918" by Roger W. Burdette or You can pick up a copy of the CD: Silver Dollars-Front Cover-Final-sm.jpg Which contains data on every delivery of Pittman silver dollars plus the fo...

Re: legitamate question about VW 1880-O Vam 2 page
RE: "I will tag at @RogerB because he keeps talking about some tool for newcomers that needs to be built .." The concept is to have an initial guide that concentrates on things newcomers will see or have questions about on their Morgan and Peace dollars -- whether or not they happen to be "VAM" vari...

Re: Please consider for DISCOVERY
RE: "Why is it that everything with new comers seems to be a new discovery? I encourage enthusiasm, but get tired of the constant "discovery?" question." This is encouraged because there is no simple, illustrated guide to the known varieties that are visually clear for new participants. To be effect...

Re: Coin Photo Viewer Windows 11
The programs described in the "10 Best" are image editing not merely viewing. The W-11 "Photo" program is a good viewer -- it lets you view photos, magnify, rotate, crop, delete and Save AS -- which is about all a viewer needs to do. I use it a lot to quickly scroll through the several thousand imag...

Bulletproof7.
Interesting photos. If you post a range of full-coin photos taken from different angles and describe the lighting in use, we might be able to figure this out.
Thanks! RWB

Re: 1921 Peace dollar for comment and suggestions
1. Kennedy half collectors of a level consistent with VAM collectors are extremely rare -- possibly none. 2. "My question here is does this need a number to be collectible?" There are no die-level resources, so "cat" numbers don't matter. 3. There will always be those who can see forward to benefici...

Re: 1921 Peace dollar for comment and suggestions
A very prominent half dollar clash and something a finder would want to know about. However, it's not analogous to the 1921s posted - there's no variety collection base for Kennedy halves. Also, it is not something that would be used to engage new dollar variety (or K-half) collectors.

EF, likely cleaned or washed with soap. Average detail.
What is your discovery and would PCGS or NGC recognize that on the holder? The label recognition as a discovery cpoin would be the only reason to spend money (even a "free" voucher) on independent "grading."

Re: 1921 Peace dollar for comment and suggestions
RE: "1921 peace clashed hair" good search point. But a new-to-varieties, wouldn't know this was about clashed hair, or in fact, anything much about the source of the marks. If the 1W description began with "Rev. Strong clash marks near eagle's head" and then added the other bits the collector could ...

Re: 1921 Peace dollar for comment and suggestions
The obvious question: The reverse clash is far more interesting than anything else on this die pair. Why is such a distinctive feature buried amid "unfindable" debris rather than at the top of the description? No new collector is going to slog through piles of nondescript marks in hopes of finding t...

Re: AU58 Paper Test
"But how can one learn the magicians tricks if he keeps changing the tricks?" That is, indeed the central question. It is the one that TPGs promised they would eliminate by reliability and consistency -- "sight unseen grading" was their mantra. The increasing velocity of instability, deception and t...

Re: 1921 Peace dollar for comment and suggestions
Rotation between the dies adds to the impact by shifting the diagonal clash at the eagle's wing, to almost parallel to its throat. I've seen the same clash but with material behind the eagle partially effaced. (This coin is from a Heritage auction -- it was too expensive for my wallet -- this was ab...

Sliced bologna fillet served with rotting anchovies -- used to con the rubes (as John Ford loved to say) into accepting false coin grading.

Daily coinage of Morgan dollars 1875-1906
Members looking for daily coinage of Morgan dollars will find the information organized by mint and month in the following National Archives documents: RG104 Entry-271 vol 1-5 Coinage by month July 1875 -June 1906. I have placed these on the NNP (Newman Numismatic Portal) for your convenience. This ...
