i really like how often you link to the attribution pages. SO much time and effort has gone into those, it'd be a shame not to use em.messydesk wrote: ↑Fri Feb 26, 2021 3:02 amCheck this link from the 1878 page: 7/8 Attribution Guide.
The pictures are all quite usable.

Re: 1878-S VAM-1i Rev, Unlisted Obv Die
RE: "how are these numbers affected by shared dies between mints, different years of coins and reworked dies?" These were dies used by and destroyed by the San Francisco Mint for 1878. Mints did not share dies and there are no extant records about the quantities of repaired dies. All dies cycled th...

Re: 1878-S VAM-1i Rev, Unlisted Obv Die
In 1878 The San Francisco Mint used 90 obverse and 84 reverse dies for the standard silver dollar. [ Ref: RG104 E-229 Box 16 of 17 ] how are these numbers affected by shared dies between mints, different years of coins and reworked dies? not looking for specifics, just general commentary. nice resu...

I looked at that link 10 times and never clicked forward to see that reverse picture... its my 'I already know so much attitude' rearing its ugly head... took me a while to notice those arrows for secondary images. chasing down vam information, often rewarding and often exhausting and most often, s...

If you don't I am going to figure out how to send this ugly coin to Leroy. he isn't going to like that coin with gunk and will probably reject it. have you looked these lists over? http://ec2-13-58-222-16.us-east-2.compute.amazonaws.com/wiki/1922-P_Clashed_Die_Attribution http://ec2-13-58...

Hi everyone, thanks for your feedback. Apart from the 'PUP's' mentioned, another one is the Die Chip on the eagle's right wing. As for experience cleaning with chemical's, I have none. Will leave this for a later date. acetone won't hurt that coin in probably a hundred year soak and a high probabil...

paint.net is pretty useful and free. you can also use PtrScr on the keyboard to get snapshots of what you are working on completely circumnavigating ANY software program but you aren't saving as nice of an image. also windows "snip" is one of my all-time favorites. does the same thing as above excep...

Re: One PCGS Order Grades In
nice group. i do enjoy someone posting early dollars here. the bb-181 info i think is a bit out-dated. it is the 2nd most common in the pops with several pieces over vf. a quick search only shows 1 in ha.com archives which is a big statement in itself but other venues are known to sell a lot of earl...

i can't help but wonder if the "fracture" that they, whomever they are, are referring to, is that monstrous eye clash on the reverse and fracture was simply the term applied that that "damaged"? good point about the person giving the coin to Preston being the technical discoverer but that does not h...
