I see polished clashing of the reverse. I see no evidence of clashing on the obverse. Without letter transfer, it's a clashed rev. die. Maybe one of the Peace "guru's" will chime in for your question, to me it does not meet submission criteria. That being said, you have the coin in hand, if it does ...

If you're at the "show" on the day the mint releases, and you buy them there..."First Strike". I think they assume the first "sold" to public, cash and carry at PoS (point of sale), they give the dealers the designation on the slab label. If you have never seen it in person, it's quite a spectacle. ...

Agreed
There is no right answer here, which is what turns people off.
Anyway, before someone asks, just focus on the 2 please. The answer is on the pages.
Metal in date would be a good start...

1882 VAM 42 duplicate listing...
See this is what happens when a slightly later state of an existing variety is sent in without the proper comparison coins.
Sigh

I see doubling.
Always start the journey with date and Mint mark, to start narrowing the search...
What you are calling a gouge, Leroy may call a scratch, depends on the day.
I see doubling Obv and rev.
What do you think you have there? VAM wise...

Re: pic of 1882-P VAM24A
The 24 was listed for the MPD,... The 24 is the LDS, 24A should likely be the ULDS, the polishing, if same on both means they are the same pair. Right. You are looking for the Mid and early, I have an EDS rev....let me see the LFPC's please. Then I'll know where to tell you to look. Did the re-work ...

Re: 1882-P Open & Closed 2 confusion
What you are referring to was early attempt at distinguishing varieties. Not really used too much in "today's" listings. Nice! Been hoping someone would "fix" the Obv 24 progression.
This Obverse was brought back to life after being shelved and rusted...then "Something happened"...
Now, Can you tell me where the reverse came from, for this marriage?
Focus on the Rev. polishing...
