Re: My own 78-S head scratcher I need help with (please)

@vampicker or @messydesk, do either of you have any guidance here? Happy to assign it a known variety if it is - happy to send it in, too, as I have others in the hopper.

Thanks.

Re: Does a 78-S VAM-44 commonly have a bow gouge?

Expected VAM-6/44 reverse PUPs: 78S686 engraved wing feather area.jpg 78S686 broken trust.jpg and 78S686 neck-wing gap.jpg But do you see the gouge I think I do? 78S686 MM and bottom of bow.jpg Clearly not seen on all the VAM-6 coins I own... Perhaps I see it on one of the photos on the VAM-44 page....

Thanks. Weozers these are subtle. Yes, like those E clashes of Morgans can be very difficult to see. Thanks for the educatin'. I'll stick with the non-dark side but appreciate the brief jaunt to the other!

Re: 1923-S Letter Trans

For those of us who are completely clueless as to what we're looking for, can you circle what you think is letter transfer? I feel like I've never looked at a Peace dollar before because I can't imagine what you all are seeing let alone see it!

Re: My own 78-S head scratcher I need help with (please)

Hate to keep beating this but I've also noticed mention of the doubling of the 'top of upper right cotton leaf' on the 110 page. Unsure if I do see it but it did lead me to look at the general area and this is what I saw. Don't know if these are found on the 88/112 obverse. Apparent 'X' scratch in t...

@fogie and @Unc90o you both have 16s in the SSDC registry, right - assuming both of these are 16As as they're in the Die Chips set...

Any way your coin could land on @messydesk's desk the same time mine could arrive?

Nice additional pictures. Sorry to add nothing really connecting with what I know. I'll hope those more experienced can take over and help guide you to a final determination.

Thanks for allowing me to participate - I keep learning as I go along.

Re: My own 78-S head scratcher I need help with (please)

Again, thanks, lewisr2 , vamnuke , tbconcrete , UNCLE BINGO and others. Prompted to look more at the 88/112 link and additional pictures, I'm even more convinced this is a 110 obverse. Hope the addtitional pictures help you help me decide. First, from the 110 page I see the matching forehead marker ...

Re: 1921 B over S in "PLURIBUS"

Without clear pictures, and none have been provided, the issue will remain not just in the possible realm of pareidolia (and being a neuroscientist by training, I love this being brought into the discussion!) but myth... Everything we know about the minting process says this is highly unlikely to be...

Just a friendly reminder that info from the "big book" is copyrighted. Unless things have changed, we are not supposed to scan and post images from the copyrighted material.

Maybe the administrator can clarify or expand.
Ah, my apologies! If this is the case I'll delete any I've uploaded.

Maybe a new pairing; double polish lines stand out on my P64 88, which shares obv with 112. Heck, we’re at 116, there’s room for more…
Thanks. Any other subtle PUPs that you might suggest I look for - obv or rev to verify or rule out?

Re: 1886VAM?

Yup, definitely not the 1P as I don't see anything on the neck of the DC. This feature is fascinting to me, beyond it looking like a square root. It might have been PMD from a long time ago that then got worn down to make it look like a die gouge because I've not seen any die gouge go one direction,...

Re: 1886 O VAM?

Only 3 choices to chose from: 2, 8 or 16. Clearly not the 2 nor the 16. Unfortunately, there were no pictures of the 8 online - until NOW! I've just scanned the 'big book' and official plate photo and added it to the webpage so you can see it. I'd say according to this you have an 8. The other PUPs ...

Other potential fun bits. Don't believe them to be PMD but can't rule that possibility out.
