Re: Question about 1889 VAM6

Sorry all I see are thumbnail pictures of your bigger ones so can't comment on them - but the VAM-6 does have the transfer from the cotton bolls to the area between the arrow feathers and tail feathers as you described. Can see it fairly clearly on the VAM-6 reverse FCP on the webpage. Thus, I'd say...

Re: 98-S Vam 11?

Looks like a near (and slightly slanted) date without a severe tilt to the mint mark (ruling out the VAM-10) so the only other option would be the VAM-11 based on descriptions.

Without proper pictures on the webpage it'll be difficult to nail down but I'd say you're most likely right.

Re: New 1897-O VAM-6C

Touché 😂. Very valid point on this exact coin. I am working a very similar 1897-P, I haven’t started a thread as I want to do my diligence and exhaust all of my limited knowledge and research abilities before hindering anyone as it seems newer collectors with limited knowledge and experience whom a...

Re: 1897 unk mm The Silver Dollar Man encased. Anyone recognize these polish lines?

What a great puzzle to solve. I'm on vacation now so not a lot of spare time to help but I will when I can.

One big PITA though: even if you can nail down a possible reverese you can't truly VAM it without nailing down the reverse, too...

Who knows, you could own the ONLY surviving 1897-CC coin...

Re: 1888-O VAM 12a - First post, be gentle

Welcome (especially because of the interesting 'be gentle' request). You are, indeed, welcome here! The 88-O series is fun and frustrating one. I'm sure you've seen the http://ec2-13-58-222-16.us-east-2.compute.amazonaws.com/wiki/Attribution_101 general page to help, and you've seen the http://ec2-1...

Question wasn't to me but I'll answer based on my coin: yes to both - stuff at the neck and metal/blod in the upper loop of first 8.

Re: New 1897-O VAM-6C

😂😂😂 I am working this VERY coin as I login to ask a question I see this. But, the coin I have, has a near date and a low date. Which to you go with first? Secondly the obverse has III2-6 as well as III2-10. It also has attributes that are on neither. I absolutely love This stuff. Being an investiga...

Can you tell me what grade this coin was in? It appears to be in a NGC holder?
Thanks

Nice...

The raw one I snagged not long ago is at ANACS being graded but is certainly not going to be anywhere near the 62 you've gotten.

Re: 1902-0 vam 45a in ANACS MS-63 value

There are loads of clashed features on some coins, including letter transfer, but, if I understand the progression of simple die wear, the letter transfer seems to fade quickly; as soon as there's no letter transfer it is not a true 45A anymore. Plus, all of this was polished away forming die #3 of ...

Re: 1902-0 vam 45a in ANACS MS-63 value

Phenomenally rotated clash that varies in the extent of letter transfer let alone other features transferred? Some falling into the $2000+ range in MS-63 if I recall properly but could imagine them being much less if they're bland...?

Re: 1880-O VAM-78 On eBay Now!

On a different but related note, just curious, Rick, if the price listed for the 1890-O VAM-1B PCGS/CAC AU55 ( https://www.ebay.com/itm/370601532534?hash=item5649929c76:g:CJsAAOSwU0VeE2XF ) is seriously $499.99? I own the 1B DC that is an ANACS AU58 grade and I can tell you that bought it at about 1...

Re: 1885-O O/O (non-12 and non-sawdust?)

The late Metalencephalon / Nate started an 85-O die study, and then I picked it up just to finish what he had started. So when I say that I don't recognize it, I mean that I can't match either the obverse or the reverse to any of those currently listed. I would suggest sending it to JB/VSS or JR/AN...

Thanks, weth . I believe someone did a farily detailed study of these in the past but can't recall who. Hoping someone remembers and helps, or at least has additional thoughts. Unsure what happened to the date picture - shows normal on my computer but magically flips after it uploads. Tried it again...
