Just wondering if both the oberses and reverses of the varieties - 1G versus 35/35A (the old 1F) are, indeed, different?
I believe the reverses might be, but the obverses look identical, even if the 1G supposedly doesn't have any digit doubling.

Re: A fun 1890-O VAM-13(A) die study in the making
1890-O-VAM13A-MHI-MM 800.JPG Thanks! Looks like yours is an intermediate to advanced state with more die fatigue similar to my second coin. Interestingly, the MM looks vanilla ice cream like (plain) which makes mine even more curious. I highly doubt mine is a true O/O because everything flies in th...

More enjoyment from 80P VAM-11 and 11A coins...
Relooking at the one VAM-11 and two VAM-11As I've been able to pick up along the way. Re: 1886 VAM # ?
Could have a high 6 making this a straight VAM-6, but there are problems assigning it anything more than that (6A, 6B). First, the pictures don't help - they're not clear enough. Doesn't appear to be any letter transfer so it wouldn't be anything more than a VAM-6. Next, and similar to possibly ruli...

jrfaust , relooked at one of my coins and saw the following: 87OV30A_cottonboll_clashlines-GRedfeather.jpg Corresponds to the arrow head shafts on the reverse. Be sure to look to see if your coin show the PUP... wickedly cool, and rather unique, obv PUP for any of the Morgan dollar varieties... I a...

Re: 1886 VAM # ?
Was thinking 1A1 based on the reverse clash line, but then saw the date. Don't see clear PUP in the 6 possibly ruling that out, unless it's there and not seen b/c of light and poor resolution of the picture. Unless there is letter transfer on the front it doesn't matter the clash lines on the back -...

Nice additional PUPs but I can't say honestly that I can see anything BUT the eye flakes. They are mesmerizing. Oh, and I'm still hunting for my own one of these... Loverly coin, Bert.

Just curious, @fogie or @Mhomei, I see you have versions of this variety (SSDC database) -- can you post pictures of the MM?

Re: I had a fun day... stars and morE
A fun comparison of how the E clashes can be in slightly different places due to slight die rotation when the dies slammed into one another. They might be different but each is purty in 'er own way. PLUS, if you look very closely at the http://ec2-13-58-222-16.us-east-2.compute.amazonaws.com/wiki/18...

A fun 1890-O VAM-13(A) die study in the making
I have two coins that both show extensive die fatigue that match the http://ec2-13-58-222-16.us-east-2.compute.amazonaws.com/wiki/1890-O_VAM-13A description. I'll show more pictures later but wanted to post something straightaway. Interestingly to me, the 13A pictures (of my coins as well as the one...

Re: Help with 1922-D VAM designation
iI'd agree with JB here that it's a 2P1; possible 2P2 but it'd need to have the raised break near the 1 to be that. Crack on the right side is shown in part on the 2P2 page so perhaps the lighting and angle of your photos simply hid the raised break at the date digit? I'm out of my element with Peac...

Re: Acid before, Acid after ?? 1878-S short nock
I'm seeing more road rash than acid. I have multiple ones that look like that - nothing to me but good old abuse with some other object that won (or perhaps not, but at least made its mark).

Re: Is this an RPM?
Doubling - but likely machine doubling. Look at the 'shelves' on the D and the O below... and will likely find other features on the reverse. Where the coin slid away from the die right after being stuck.
Pretty, sometimes; frustrating, often.

Re: 1884-CC VAM 5...A?
Thanks as this helps. That decision is above my pay grade, for sure, but I'm thinking it a 50:50 shot. Not bad, but not a guarantee. The big boys (JR and/or JB) would need to chime in. Clash up to the n shows the outline on the neck would show most of the rightside of the letter sticking off of the ...

Is this not a clashed N? or up above my circled area sure looks like it to me! Awesome pictures! Oh I can see it , at first my eye thought it was too far away from the wing transfer on the neck line, It has occurred to me that in order to print out a true hillbilly clash tool I would need an exact ...

Honestly I'd recommend picking up a USB microscope for your own use. My 80 year old dad has one and loves it. Not too expensive, too, anymore so no real financial disincentive - but huge hobby incentive! With ease you'll be able to capture photos like I just got: WIN_20230322_07_39_36_Pro.jpg For th...
