Re: Great recent finds attributed

I think I had a dream like this once... or multiple times... Each time, alas, waking up empty handed.

Wicked lot (as they say 'round Boston)...

F/u on JB's 91-O 1A2 purchase...

Thought I'd post this here as it is related to what it's worth and not general topics... messydesk your recent purchase was a GREAT one ( http://www.vamworld.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=6899 ) and one I am admittedly insanely jealous of... I'm curious to learn about the apparent 'steal' I'm seeing...

Adding to the educational process. Memorize the Attribution 101 page eventually... for now see: http://ec2-13-58-222-16.us-east-2.compu ... e_Clashing.

Happy hunting and learning...

Re: 1881 S questions

Always start with the date and the mint mark. Of the pictures you posted, those are the two that are needed to attribute this coin. I don't see any clash marks of note. 81-S can be difficult to attribute due to frequent machine doubling, but this one isn't hard. Your initial assessment is on the ri...

OT: The original 'Hot Lips'?

Prompted by the wonderful post and pictures by vampicker http://www.vamworld.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=6831 , I thought I'd add a bit of my own fun. Here's a lovely lady, Hera, who, according to Wikipedia "is the goddess of marriage, women and family, and the protector of women during childbirth...

Re: Help Identify VAM for 1878 S

Many people miss the subtle but really helpful B2 guide link on the 78S page: 78SB2guidelink.jpg Here for your reference: http://ec2-13-58-222-16.us-east-2.compute.amazonaws.com/wiki/1878-S_B2_Varieties See the sections on broken 4th star, unbroken 'r' of trust - without or with doubling of LIBERTY ...

By becomming a member of SSDC. From the main VAMWorld2.0 page: http://ec2-13-58-222-16.us-east-2.compu ... /wiki/SSDC

Well worth it, IMHO.

And continued best of luck!

Re: 1878 S VAM 6 or 22 or ?

16 is still a fun coin - nice find, What I've found is the chip on the eagle's chest (also found on VAM-28) is as easy to spot as it is to miss... but sometimes it looks like the eagle has been shot (even in low resolution photos)...

The composite picture at the top of the 101 page needs to be edited as it still shows the 100 reverse?

Re: 1878-S VAM-73 - doubled LIBERTY or not?

The normative specification for the VAM 73 obverse (II 30) is silent with regard to doubling on LIBERTY. The guide put together on the wiki is an informative interpretation. It would appear that the II 30 obverse die has slight doubling on LIBERTY, so the guide would need to be updated to be consis...

1878-S VAM-73 - doubled LIBERTY or not?

I'm confused. The B2 guide - http://ec2-13-58-222-16.us-east-2.compute.amazonaws.com/wiki/1878-S_B2_Varieties - says the 73 (and 114 for that matter) are in the "4th Star Broken, r in Trust Unbroken" list - lacking a doubled LIBERTY - yet they share the obverse with 107 which is in the "4th Star Bro...

Re: HIt List 40 Value Questions

Interested in hearing the answer to this one, too. SSDC database guide shows odd values. Most 90-Os in 50, 53 or 55 condition go for about $45 (to $55 or $60 but not that much higher), yet the SSDC site shows the value for the VAM-20 to run amok in higher circulated grades, only to precipitously dro...

Education is a process... sometimes straightforward, sometimes circuituous, convoluted and chaotic...

As long as we keep open and kind, it can happen - for all us as we were all once 'less educated'.

Keep up the hunt remembering that the human brain is simultaneously our best asset... and worst!
