Re: 1878-S VAM 36

Any idea of value for 1878-S VAM 36, NGC, MS64? Thanks Don't know if you got your answer or not but the new price guide on SSDC gives it a ballpark of $195, only $10 above the listing for a VAM-19/19A/19B. Guide says graded VAM-36s in MS63 are only worth $104, though, which seems a bit low? I am de...

Re: Is there any vams that are with the 1921 d JOH-22 small break above m Morgan?

A pattern of minor cracks as illustrated by JOH-22 with no field displacement, noticeable die chips or scribble scratches would be a VAM 1. Most of the JOH listings have since had other stages noted that resulted in a VAM being assigned to it. As far as I know, this hasn't been found with anything ...

Thanks, Larry, for sharing your passions and story. I still feel like a neophyte to the community yet have felt a warmth here (fortunately) unlike many other parts of life (unfortunately). Andy is lucky as are we all because this feed-forward kindness is one of the best ways for us to eventually hel...

Re: 1892 clash

Is anyone familiar with an 1892 P with an S clash on the reverse. https://photos.app.goo.gl/ivVw1Lnx1iR6gVQ79 1A and 3A both are clashed - you'd need to check the date placement and other pick up points (PUPs), and ensure there is letter transfer on the obverse. But, yes, according to the page http...

I see man's angst as he rallies against the ever-marching tide of time... Oh, wait. Wrong test, sorry. Jesus in the cornflake? Love the challenge, but I'm failing to rise up to it. On a related (distantly, like some cousins) note, I did see some interesting patterns. Kinda like https://funnyordie.co...

Yes, transplantation to a new country does not mean one can't find interesting VAMs. I scooped up this little ditty the other day from the midlands of the country - far from The Big Easy. I'd like to know the story of how it came here and ended up in my hands. This doesn't count as my First Find of ...

His company was also a fence for Ford's counterfeit California and Mexico bars, and USAOG fakes. These were later accepted by former employee Vladimir Clain-Stephanelli as genuine although there were immense questions about their origin and alloy. The same company insisted that a small dealer's 191...

Love the question. Many people in my world say all artists are 'frustrated artists' in that the pursuit of better never ceases. My bet, but I'd love to know the exact answer, is I'd not be surprised at all if he was oft to say "Here... lemme fix that little - and incredibly frustrating - little flaw...

Re: Legal or Not?

My copy just arrived and at the risk of playing the fool, it is a gold mine of information. I'm not sure when I will be able to study the book, but I did take a quick at the section on regulations. As the regs appear to be written prior to the Reconstruction Amendments, I believe they are lawful (a...

Agree with @morganman as this must be a difficult decision for those of you who benefit from in-person events. All I can hope is that you get in and out of one of the states that has been mismanaged by far worst than most. If I look at things that matter in dealing with the pandemic itself, deaths ...

1880-O VAM-7 PCGS 62 premium?

Just curious as I've not seen many sales of this. Although it is a Hit List 40, I don't think it's a rarity especially at this grade (at least 15 at this grade in SSDC as well as a dozen or so at 63 and 64). I spied past sales on Heritage: $190 PCGS May 2021 $109 PCGS Oct 2018 $141 PCGS Apr 2017 $16...

WOW! Thanks for sharing. This is an extra fine find to end the year on. As mentioned, I love learning and this will keep me pacified in a non-pacifistic way for at least a few days. Intent, law, freedom of expression, deception, power and more. All the makings of a good novel - and a fascinating rea...

And I thought I had a point, counter-point brief discussion where I would learn something about how these dies could be reused legitimately. This sucker has a life of its own, which probably says Congress is involved somewhere along the way. As the originator, I vote we bury this one since apparent...

Beauty! I believe dave700x might be correct about the berry. The clash coming out of Liberty's cap here reminds me of another picture I didn't post on the 1882-O VAM-38B 'Guess the clashing through the snow' fun. I believe I've caught a bit of something similar on the coin I have in hand: A086 - 202...

Re: Legal or Not?

The Nevada State Museum in Carson City has been striking tokens/medals from cancelled Morgan dies (84 obv, 78 rev) on special occasions for years. Regardless of the medal used, there's little confusing these with coins that don't have a giant X on them. I bought one of the recent restrikes made fro...

I am 82 and O and by the way I would have to guess 38 times with a B You, and she, look damned great for 82! No-O need to guess any more times. Some might say you have a certain WOW! factor... Dr. Mark would agree, I'm sure. Thirty eight is plenty of guesses - no more! The answer for those of you l...
