Re: DO THESE PICTURES OF MY 1878 OF THE COTTON BOLLS AND LEAVES LOOK DOUBLED?
Look closely at the T (LIBERTY) and the stars (especially first 2 on the right)... that is, if you think you have a 115/198 as these help when the cotton bolls are not playing nicely.

Re: Denticle dots, are they from strike dbl?
Was just looking at a 78-S VAM-75 and noticed what I mentioned: dashes/spears begin along the right stars and become a full line as they progress under the date...

No fooling around, that is one wickedly cool coin!

Re: 1889 Wrong attribution?
Frustrating sounding, for sure, and a reminder we are really enslaved to technology. And when the IT gods and goddesses want to make our life hell... they do! Love my Dinolite and still use it frequently even though I have a slick Bluetooth/wireless one now that talks with my computer without the ne...

Re: DO THESE PICTURES OF MY 1878 OF THE COTTON BOLLS AND LEAVES LOOK DOUBLED?
I'd say a possible b/c these can be nuanced (in my humble opinion and based on a li. I have a couple different ones that show variability yet are attributed. Here are pictures as well as other PUPs to help nail down it being a 115 (assuming the reverse isn't for the 198!) 78PV115_7924_2x cotton boll...

Re: 1882 S VAM 17A 'DIE CHIP LEFT WREATH'
Will try and grab the coin later when I can, Bert, but I'm away this weekend. Interesting things going on around your MM for sure but I can't tell what... As for the name, most of you might recognize me from the 2010-13 time frame when I had a different life... and, yes, different name. Explanation ...

Re: 1889 Wrong attribution?
Love it when I see what the experts see. One spot on one that illustrates how subtle variations do not make a different variety than normal schtuff within tolerance. I'd echo the plea to stop taking pictures of computer screens. You have a comptuer, you're posting online - why can't you post picture...

Re: Denticle dots, are they from strike dbl?
Looking forward to hearing the experts' explanation. All I know is they're common as dirt. As are the 'dashed' varieties - ones that begin on one denticle and extend in a spear-like fashion towards the other one. Yes, sometimes leading to entire rows of connected denticles. How it happens? Likely ti...

@vampicker, you rock and I'm so glad you're adding/correcting my input! I had no idea there were 3 different dies for the 200 listing - now I'll need to start a look out for the other two to complete my set. #mywifeisn'tgoingtobehappywithyou Not 3 dies for VAM 200, 3 dies with similar breaks. Re: 1878p Vam 31, 110 and 40 obverses
I believe you're thinking incorrectly like I did - that because production started with the 8tf flavor (and VAM-9 specifically), that the natural progression went 8tf -> 7/8tf -> 7tf. I've been told and believe this isn't quite true. For example, see http://www.vamworld.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t...

Re: 1882 S VAM 17A 'DIE CHIP LEFT WREATH'
bhinkle , nice coin and prompted me to look at mine. Similar chip but you've definitely got something else going on with the MM. Mine shows the expected S/S in regular fashion, but yours looks like someone got angry  with it. Or there was a wild planchet flaw (doubtful) or something else. Wou...

Re: 1921 B over S in "PLURIBUS"
Glad to have helped. I'd echo the suggestion to try and make this official. Showing it to others and having them give a response (especially when they're likely not experts in varieties of Morgans...) leads to confusion and, worse, the belief that it's correct information. I'm not saying this might ...

Re: 1881 O OVER POLISHED REVERSE VAM 1J
I really don't like to confuse things, but I'm confused. bhinkle and messydesk , aren't the wing scratches shown in the picture "SS34543U.jpg" identical to the ones shown on the 1J page - and not found on the 16? I've searched my 16 with key PUPs that match the 16 page (included below) but a coin th...

Re: 1879 VAM ?
Again, very happy to help but without high quality, clear pictures they will remain mysteries. 1879-P coins had at least 157 die pairs so the sheer number of potential variations is great - but limited, thankfully. No pictures of your coin on a monitor, only up-close clear pictures of key points: da...

Stunning coin. I was thrilled to find an AU58 in my original lot from the 1970s - this find blows that one away.
