Re: 1900-O Help sought
Near vs normal will cook your brain if you let it. It's irrelevant here because the VAM 28 date is plated in the VAM book. Enough is captured in the image to positively determine it's a match. Agree but my brain was well cooked in high school in the early 1980s for other reasons. This raises a vali...

Re: 1901 O VAM?(3)
According to what you see and have shared, and searching the http://ec2-13-58-222-16.us-east-2.compute.amazonaws.com/wiki/1901-O_Obverses guide for 'profile' - you're right to limit your choices to 43 or 46. Unless you see the "Three vertical polishing lines at bottom of eagle's right wing" describe...

Re: 1900-O Help sought
Nice story in the making, but might need a bit of adjusting? A handful (ok, two handfulls as there are 10) of clear pictures of major PUPs of a non-circulated coin and the variety nailed. According to the pictures, but not the description. Unfortunately, the description doesn't mention it being a ne...

Re: 1901 O VAM?
I understand the confusion and see what you mean. The ultimate and likely best route is to send the coin to either messydesk or vampicker as they'd have the definitive say (and confirm if, indeed, some of what you're seeing is machine doubling and/or PMD). Might not be possible if this is a circulat...

Re: 1901 O VAM?
I'd say it's a VAM-35 agreeing that what you have to go (off the webpages) is a bit light, but the two major PUPs (double rev legend and date with srack) are pretty much spot on.

Re: My Birthday Thoughts Today of Yesteryear & Beloved Morgan Dollars
Happy birthday (even if it is a little late - extending the celebration at a minimum, right?!). Thanks for sharing your memories as these are what makes the community what it could be beyond the amazing coins we hunt.

Re: 1901 O VAM?
I'll simply add my own hesitation to add to the hunt (i.e., your general posts) because I find it (them) overwhelming. I count almost 50 pictures of this coin yet most varieties can be identified fairly quickly -- in the order of 5-8 steps, if you will, if the major PUPs are the focus. I don't want ...

Re: A bit of 'Them's the breaks' fun... 86O1E2 advanced state...
Question for the experts: Is the 1E2 just not that interesting to folks or might it be that difficult to pick up? Right now there are only 3 registered in SSDC - a 45 details, a 50 and a 58. I happily own the last one yet when I picked up this new one (raw so not registered yet, obviously) I was rea...

Re: 1878 S
Also, welcoming you to the site. Actually the 78S series is made MUCH easier to break thanks to the many, many guides available on the general webpage. All you need to do is keep your coin in hand and march through all the pages. Yes this can take a while but once you've bought the coin, it's a 'fre...

Re: SSDC Registry deadline is Dec 1st
Can you tell us less enlightened folks exactly what this means? I've been registering my coins as I can but find it a bit daunting when I look at some, er most, of the other registered sets because there is likely NO WAY I'd ever be able to match some of your skills - let alone working budget - to s...

Re: New considerations for the SSDC "Them's the Breaks (Basic)" registry set
So....it's not something aimed at attracting the interest of new specialty collectors. Could this be one of several approaches? I personally think so. We'd be well served to keep the Goldilocks principle in mind, searching for the right not too much/too little amount, as long and unachievable lists...

Re: 1922-P VAM-2R3
I replied on your PCGS board post, but I wanted to add something here. If you want to get them all graded, assuming the coins are indeed all BU, you could submit them to me to add to a PCGS bulk order that I'm accumulating. The grading fees would be a small fraction of what they'd be if you sent th...

Junk in the trunk, indeed! morganman , I do know the DMPL versions are out there and man would I love to find one... messydesk , I'm still looking for the 44 in the wild but did break down and bought an AOH coin which felt like I was 'cheating' but it is a hole filled (and with PCGS blessing it at a...

Brent, Brilliant input, thanks. I agree with your comments. Can you share (here or by a PM) who created the list because this really should be decided/driven by them - with our input and suggestions, but I don't want to steal someone else's baby if you get my meaning. I've found quite a few of the m...
