Re: 1880-P VAM-1G and VAM-35/35A (1F) clarification?

It looks like the VAM 35A picture (labeled VAM 1F) of the first 8 is shown alongside the first 8 from VAM 1G, perhaps to show that VAM 1G doesn't have the big blob in the bottom of the 8. Thanks, John. I'm curious how the two different obverse dies could show so similar die fatigue to one another. ...

Re: Correcting incorrect 1891-S VAM-3 Die #3 comments?

You bet, from the original submission (or from LVA's response, sorry I can't remember but I believe the former): 1891-S VAM-3 3 different rev dies.jpg Unsure where the other photos of the Die 3 on the webpage came from but here are a few from the DC: GR1891Sv3 near date.jpg GR1891Sv3 2x stars.jpg GR...

Correcting incorrect 1891-S VAM-3 Die #3 comments?

Was a bit taken aback when I was on the http://ec2-13-58-222-16.us-east-2.compute.amazonaws.com/wiki/1891-S_VAM-3 page and saw a couple statements that I don't believe are accurate. Why? Because I submitted the Die #3 coin to LVA and he said things that are different than what are now on the variety...

Re: 1880-P VAM-1G and VAM-35/35A (1F) clarification?

Thanks. I have a coin I'll need to look at more closely because it shows the general die fatigue around the date, stars and lower hairline, but I'm unsure now if it's a 1G or a 35/35A.

Re: 1881 O OVER POLISHED REVERSE VAM 1J

I have multiple 16 coins, too, and they are gorgeous just like Bert's 1J. Supposedly they are different - and I am still looking for a 1J. I believe subtle PUPs are the only way to tell the difference but I honestly struggle to see them clearly. Perhaps b/c these damned coins are SO shiny (mine are ...

Re: 1878-P B2 reverse conundrum - guru input welcomed

Scarce; my discovery back in the day; usually PL. Nice find… Bloody 'ell this is a FUN coin. I marched past it after looking briefly because my coin has a lot more going on than described. I suspect this is an earlier die state but would love to hear from the owners of the 15 or so others (SSDC reg...

Re: Amending the 04-O VAMs 22A1/2 pages to help clarify the story?

Thanks, LateDateMorganGuy , my friend. I so appreciate the flow chart (and the other ones I've seen) as it (they) help, but without explanation this might confuse some. To clarify: the boxes that say 'Obv. Die' or 'Rev. Die' means that die was used to create the next variant (and in succession), whi...

I've got an example sitting on my desk in a virtually identical stage. I just see typical clashmarks without any hint of letter transfer. I added a comment to the VAM 5 page about some examples having clashmarks with no letter transfer

1878-P B2 reverse conundrum - guru input welcomed

I thought this a nice, but likely, plain Jane (no offense to Janes out there) variety. Now I'm perplexed, having marched through all variations looking for a fit. Ended up having a fit (or two) but no success. The short story: clear B2 reverse, 4th star broken, r in trust broken, closed o in God, so...

1878-S VAMs 1D1/2 and 73 reverse sequence use?

Not mentioned anywhere but it is logical to think the reverse was use first for VAM-73, the obverse was switched out forming the 1D1, the crack on the reverse happened forming the 1D2 and the reverse die put to pasture?

Re: 1889 O VAM 1A

I'm a no as well. Even on well worn coins you can pick use PUPs to assist in analysis. In this case I don't see them. Attached is a 1a1 that is very abused, and my file pictures are not great, but the pick up points (obverse crack B-U, reverse profile) are reasonably visible. Fab additions! Definit...
