Re: 1888 VAM 39 B but w/out the displaced break

Second coin, an earlier die stage with only the beginnings of cracks along the date and stars, but clear crack at (PLUR)IBU. Oh, and has the die scratches along the cotton leaf, too... Happen to have a neck-wing gap picture of this one already and it appears to match yours. For clarity, the previous...

Re: 1888 VAM 39 B but w/out the displaced break

Still pulling the coins out to get additional pictures, but though I'd start with the pictures I already have. This first batch of seven pictures comes from the more advanced stage coin - clear cracks along the stars and date, above Liberty's head adn PLURIBUS and on the reverse. Also shows signs of...

Re: 1888 VAM 39 B but w/out the displaced break

I have a 15A and two 39Bs (one early but with cracking, the other later with more clear cracks/displacement). I can pull these to get up-close PUP pictures if you'd like? Gary, I think the 39B's would help considerably. Thanks Will pull them and get pictures but can say immediately that the 39B's l...

Re: 1882 VAM 19 issue

Look different to me - small die scratch on the left leaf, second from the top, is missing on the bottom coin; the dot in the bow of the lower coin might be debris or toning (hard to tell), clearly not there in the upper coin; the small die scratch on the middle leaf, right above the wreath stem) of...

Re: 1888 VAM 39 B but w/out the displaced break

Interesting. Hard to tell without looking more at the reverse but the obv is looking more like an earlier die state of the 39B which, as was stated, would make this a 39 (and not the revamped 15 version)? Without seeing the official versions side by side, though, this is a rather perplexing continua...

"Is there an AWARD for the most posts in a year by a member?"

I wouldn't encourage it. I prefer quality over quantity.
And I am not critical of the current ratio.
Agree.

Re: Selling Vams - Heritage Dec. 3rd 1878-1885

This was an incredible sale - put bids on LOTS of them but only snagged one as others were clearly not just with the willpower (desire) but the way-power (means... i.e., money!). Fantastic, fantastic testament to your collecting passion.

All l can say is a sincere thank you for capturing your thoughts. I'm trying to learn as much as I can but will admit most of this flies over my head. Ironic as I've been studying the human brain for over 30 years and I fail to understand why I can't grasp this stuff that comes so naturally to you! ...

Dunno because each time I look at the FCPs I'm mesmerized and can't see anything but beauty. Nice looking coin!

Looks almost like a far date but it doesn't match the 14 or 17. Looking forward to learning what this is...

Re: 1900-O Help sought

Near vs normal will cook your brain if you let it. It's irrelevant here because the VAM 28 date is plated in the VAM book. Enough is captured in the image to positively determine it's a match. Agree but my brain was well cooked in high school in the early 1980s for other reasons. This raises a vali...

According to what you see and have shared, and searching the http://ec2-13-58-222-16.us-east-2.compute.amazonaws.com/wiki/1901-O_Obverses guide for 'profile' - you're right to limit your choices to 43 or 46. Unless you see the "Three vertical polishing lines at bottom of eagle's right wing" describe...

Re: 1900-O Help sought

Nice story in the making, but might need a bit of adjusting? A handful (ok, two handfulls as there are 10) of clear pictures of major PUPs of a non-circulated coin and the variety nailed. According to the pictures, but not the description. Unfortunately, the description doesn't mention it being a ne...

Re: 1901 O VAM?

I understand the confusion and see what you mean. The ultimate and likely best route is to send the coin to either messydesk or vampicker as they'd have the definitive say (and confirm if, indeed, some of what you're seeing is machine doubling and/or PMD). Might not be possible if this is a circulat...

Re: 1901 O VAM?

I'd say it's a VAM-35 agreeing that what you have to go (off the webpages) is a bit light, but the two major PUPs (double rev legend and date with srack) are pretty much spot on.

Happy birthday (even if it is a little late - extending the celebration at a minimum, right?!). Thanks for sharing your memories as these are what makes the community what it could be beyond the amazing coins we hunt.
