Re: 1923 s Unlisted Radial Die Break with photos

ANACS reported their grade and label on this specimen today 6-7-23 as 1923 s VAM 1AG WEAKLY STRUCK AU 55 I would disagree with the "WEAKLY STRUCK" description. In fact, weak strikes are caused by insufficient die approximation and abnormally low ram pressure. Reeding will be weak/absent from a weak ...

Re: 1921P potential duplicate listings

Thanks for that feedback, Roger! Because VAM 1BB was a late die state listing, there was always the possibility of a subsequent earlier die state listing, which would have split it into VAM 1BB1 and your 1BB2. But because the earlier die state shows doubling not seen in the initial listing, I belie...

1921 P VAM 3DJ2 Correction

The 1921 P VAM 3DJ2 that is listed as my Discovery Piece on the Page shows an incorrect photo of EDS VAM 3DJ2 in the second photo. In fact, the third photo labeled Die Break U R (VAM DJ3) is photo of my Discovery Piece that I personally contributed. JR attributed my VAM DJ2 and commented at that tim...

Re: 1923S VAM 1AG

The Discovery Piece by George Powell in March 2006 is not noted for radial die crack at C (PEACE). Leroy did not miss listing radial die crack/breaks as evidenced by many other similar listings. Perhaps George Powell can best answer this issue. The supplemental photos on the Page for VAM 1AG Late Di...

TWO SQUIGGLY Die Cracks

1923 D VAM 1BF was initially listed by LVA as Die Break Above N with squiggly die crack thru diagonal of N of IN up to rim where it widens into a break on late die states. Ironically, another squiggly die crack developed from rim near left side of Y in LIBERTY over to rim away from right side of Y w...

@RogerRock I know this is an old thread, but by coincidence I recently acquired a PCGS-62 coin that exactly matches your descriptions. It's now off to @messydesk for an attribution sticker. The feed finger-polished area inside the wing really caught my eye: 1921-D VAM 1B1 FF area.jpg Fresh, mint st...

Re: 1923 s Unlisted Radial Die Break with photos

This particular specimen is about to cross JR's desk. Quite unusual to see combination with radial die break across C (PEACE), strong clash marks, obverse rim die break above RT, double clashed spikes off eagle,s shoulder, and loss of detail on center of both obverse and reverse (Strike Through ?). ...

Nice find on additional reverse die break above ER. VAM 1X2 obverse has previously dominated the die break progression.

Re: 1921P potential duplicate listings

@weth: I don't have a VAM 1BB or a VAM 120A, but I do have a VAM 120. There's no doubt about it, 1BB is the same as 120A. Great work! Now we need to get @messydesk to make the call about which one to kill, so we can remove something from the official date set. The 1921 P VAM 1BB has been listed for...
