Re: 1923-P VAM Question

Nice find on the 1923 VAM 1AC2. Any variety with a nickname is special as in this case "Whisker Chin". Twin clash spikes off the eagle's shoulder, intersecting die cracks forming an X below eagle's talon, and line through D are interesting die markers. Recently, my 1923 VAM 1AC2 specimen received an...

Re: 1889-P VAM-23 Series Flowchart

Thanks for offering that die attribution guide on the die sequences of 1889 P VAM 23. It reflects your in depth die study on this great VAM 23 series. Cherrypicking that 1889 P VAM 23 A out of a bowl of loose Morgan Dollars must have been absolutely epic! Now, vammers enjoy updated die sequences on ...

Re: 1923-D VAM 1W

Nice retained cud 1923 D Peace $. I was quite surprised to find a 1923 D VAM 1W Peace Dollar specimen in a very small assortment of silver dollars owned by my uncle 23 years ago. This same 1923 D $ now resides in an ANACS MS 60 holder. I remember showing it to Ash at a local Raleigh Coin Show about ...

Re: Short and Sweet

Description was too short when no mention of the strong doubling inside top of D (GOD) was made. I remember how impressive this doubled D looked on my first well circulated 1934 D VAM 3 cherry picked specimen.

Re: 1889-P VAM-23A/23B Update Part II

Clashed die sequence is very difficult to interpret and follow with a limited number of specimen. Your dedication on research in this field is exemplary. Thank You Wayne for all of the contributions that you provide on VAMWorld!

Re: 1891-O E clash; follow-up information

It is ironic how clashed die mishaps during the minting of coins has evolved into highly desirable collectible variety coins today.

Thanks for the historic documentation regarding the criticism of clashed die events at the mint.

Re: 1921 P VAM 89 Defective Planchet

Has anyone ever seen a full blown clamshell on a Morgan/Peace Dollar? The 1921 P VAM 89 is noted on the Page as having a radial die scratch thru E in STATES. My specimen does not show this die marker. I have never seen a clamshell on a Morgan, but would love to. My VAM 89 has the E scratch, but it ...

1921 P VAM 89 Defective Planchet

I wanted to share an error Morgan that displays an edge crack through the reeding from above the T (UNITED) down above the star. The cracked planchet caused eight incomplete/deformed denticles left of UNITED. Another short crack through the reeding shows left of LA (DOLLAR) without strike deformatio...

Re: 1923-S darkside (& hopefully a non-micro-VAMming) question

All of the marks circled on reverse are clash marks. Sometimes the clash at the eagle's shoulder is very closely doubled and difficult to photograph. Recently posted a LDS 1923 S VAM 1AG with unlisted reverse radial die break from rim below C (PEACE) on June 30. Photos were posted on July 18 2022. T...

Re: 1882O Morgan VAM 22a with split denticles

The odd dented denticles are very common on 1921 S VAM 1BV. Leroy called out the VAM 1BV as " the most severe case of overpolished upper tail feathers that I've seen."

Re: Beveled Field Capped R

I realize this is a very old post , However I picked one up last week ,NOT ATTRIBUTED and wanted to confirm there was nothing special about the disrupted field , before I cracked it out and tapped the label in my DANSCO . Appears to be LDS VAM 1B1 as well , maybe just before the DIe exploded at the...
