Re: Stolen coins

There are 3 to 4 coin dealers every weekend at the Edmonton Alberta flee market, at the end of one sale a dealer packed up and carried his box of coins to his vehicle, he was pepper sprayed and robbed by a couple of thieves.

Re: 1878s Top 30 Rarity List

Perhaps what would work to highlight the rarity of some coins is a list of 1878s VAMS that have 20 and fewer representatives of any known clear grade. Perhaps another category would be of the coins where there are from 21 to 50 known representatives of any known clear grade. I understand that some o...

Re: 1878s Top 30 Rarity List

I do not have sufficient knowledge to make the list. Some who have the knowledge keep it to themselves and allow an obviously false rarity scale to be perpetuated on this site.

Re: 1878s Top 30 Rarity List

The Top 100, Hot 50, Hit List 40 and WOW! lists all contain coins where the known examples are of large numbers. Few of the 1878s Morgans that are in these lists would have less than 20 known examples. Agreed there are problems with determining the exact numbers of assorted VAMS, but these issues ar...

1878s Top 30 Rarity List

It would be very nice if we could have a top 30 rarity list for 1878 San Francisco Morgans. The first coin in the list being the rarest, perhaps followed by a number indicating the number of problem-free graded examples. That latter single number would be a result of combining of the ANACS, NGC and ...

Re: 1878s Vam 111

I have completed an extensive study of the coin's mint mark location by utilizing the seller's photographs, and have determined that the said mint mark is not shifted as far left as a Vam 22 mint mark. The coin is in transit and I await it with gleeful anticipation. Thanking you all for your concern.

Re: 1878s Vam 111

Here we go again!!! Picked up my second 1878s Vam-111 on eBay yesterday, was a little surprised at the lack of interest in the coin. Too bad the RIB is doubled.

They are out there in small numbers and once acquired, few collectors put them up for sale, it seems.

Re: 1878s VAM-18A

1878s Vam-18 and 18A seem to be rarer encapsulated and more rarely sold on the market than four of the San Francisco Long Nocks... 26, 27, 56 and 57.

It appears to be 18A. Other high end VAM-18 coins are in ANACS holders apparently.

1878s VAM-18A

Found this on ebay last week, there was little interest in the Vam, the coin sold cheap. It is one of the easier 1878s Vams to identify, is a WOW! Vam and a Top 30 1878s Vam, is difficult to find for sale in any condition.

1878s VAM-100

I am thrilled to have the coin arrive today from Great Collections!!! It sold cheap, I guess few recognized the Vam, perhaps others thought the grade too low.

Re: why doesn't PCGS care?

Why doesn't PCGS care? Because people find the PCGS case to be more important than the coin. ANACS would have a greater market share if they retained their small white cases, which is nicer than any case they used later, and nicer than any NGC or PCGS case. ANACS would also have obtained a greater m...

You can add detail to the coin with a wire brush.

1878s VAM-59

Heritage Auctions was selling a 1878s VAM-59 once every 42 months, they are now considerably overdue. Collectors who own one or more are holding onto these coins, making it harder for people to complete these San Francisco Long Nock sets. Similar problems are playing out with VAM's 58, 60, 62 and 72.

Re: 1878s Vam 111

Coin arrived, 4th star broken, any doubling in RIB likely due to PMD. Very sad day.

Re: 1878s Vam 111

I guess I deluded myself into thinking that the 4th right star is undamaged, and that the RIB was doubled. Now seeing that the nose is NOT over-polished seals it for me (albeit VAM-111 could have an earlier die stage). Thanking all who pointed out my delusion. I hope to continue to look and learn, t...
