Re: Peace Dollars

If you can find it, try to get "The Wonders of Peace Dollars" by Leroy Van Allen (published around 2012), and the most recent update which should have all of those listed since that book came out.

Re: 1922 P VAM 16 & 55 possible duplicates?

There are a multitude of 1922's with minor DDO & DDR, which can make attribution & distinction between them difficult, especially in the absence of other die markers. To answer the original question, I would ideally like to see the discovery coins of both. In the absence of being able to do so, I wi...

Re: Poor Old wore out Peace dollar

Would like to see this in higher grade. If this is a cud (I am skeptical), I have not seen anything which could be an EDS of this break.

Re: What is a Die Study?

Perhaps the first requirement for starting a date study is you have to have OCD, so that you will not stop until fairly certain that the task is complete. A date study should strive to at least identify (although not necessarily own) every die pair, and every major die state. Pick a date, and go for...

Re: 1925 PEACE DOLLAR?

From the photos posted, I don't recognize it. It could be an EDS VAM 1U (prev listed as VAM 1V before the latter was eliminated as the EDS). There are quite a few pitted die varieties in Peace dollars (esp 1924!), I am not inclined to give a new listing unless it is easily differentiated from others...

Re: Double Date 1922 Peace Dollar

This is unlisted. The obverse has a nice clash mark behind the neck, but at some point after the clash it was clearly pained with a second reverse die. I have not seen this obverse paired with a clashed die reverse. Keep on looking, and keep on asking questions, that is part of what makes VAM collec...

Re: 1921 Matt Proof??

VAM 1F is the business strike from the Matte Proof die pair. The easiest die marker is an oblique die scratch above E of ONE parallel to the ray.

Re: 1921 Peace neck point polish lines/die engraving question

I looked at several of my 1921 Peace dollars, they all have these lines to a greater or lesser degree, so it appears that they are in the hub or the master die.

Re: 1923-P rev ray clash on the obv (like a 1AH)?

What I see are die cracks and a single clash. I don't recognize it as a listed variety, & these features by themselves would not be listable.
