Some Available Varieties

I updated my EIN on eBay and they are now holding all of my sales payouts and threatened suspension if I do not produce the letter (requested from the IRS, taking 4-6 weeks to receive) proving it is mine. Of course, their deadline is well before it will probably get here. So, in the meantime, I gues...

Re: 1904 O PCGSMS64DMPL VAM 28A 'TRIGGER'

It is one that often can be found in 64 and 65 PL/DMPL. Had a little hoard at one time. Another is the VAM-4B. They are usually, and appropriately, attributed now as VAM-4A. But that includes both pre- and post-clash states. The prooflikeness was from remediation polishing. It is one of those things...

Re: Is there a trick to photographing overstruck coins to make the original more visible?

I have a few I see things in under microscope but can't get what I'm seeing to show up in photos, which would be hugely helpful for making overlays in photoshop to find a match. It makes me want to find someone with access to a scanning electron microscope and beg for their scan. Are there any know...

OT - Trade Challenge addendum

One thing that bothered me was slot 29 of the Trade Challenge 50, 1877-CC. I put an major rarity in there, C-9. It has an RPD and RPM. However, there is the C-2.1 also that has a similar RPD, but a different date position. It also potentially has an MPD. It seems to be only scarce. To avoid misattri...

Re: HUGE bargain at Heritage last night

Wow.

I had not been following them for some time now, but recall the 44/44A pricing pretty chaotically in the market. It seemed to have gone from an arguable king of VAMs to not being very promoted.

Re: Fun Find: 1921-D VAM-1U

It really is a neat VAM.

The VAM-1AL is an evil mimic cousin. Saw one in Pittsburgh at the ANA. The mimic is not an issue if you have the image of the VAM-1U gouge. But when going without resources, one could easily pick up a 1AL (still a good VAM) thinking it is a 1U.

Re: Long Beach Roll Call

Despite the nearly unanimous consensus that the attendance was weak and sales low, it was a good show for me. Hung with fogie, Mike T, and Michael D for pretty much the entire show. Quality time also with Ash, David Miller, and their entourage. Mark W stopped by on Friday for a while too. Hung at Bi...

They pay some people out there to do much less anymore. Great to have guys, like you, making such significant contributions to the understanding of the hobby pro bono.

I believe that was the only 1885-S I did not have (based on discoveries to that point) when I had that huge VAM set.

Long Beach Roll Call

Who will be or might be attending the Long Beach show next week?

I am set up in the middle of the bourse (booth 732/Select Rarities) and at least fogie will be helping me out there, probably one or two others. Know of a few others who are coming. We might have enough to do some SSDC/VAM get together.

No. Nothing even resembling a proof has been among the branch mint products.

On a tangent, speaking of The Price Is Right, Bob Barker just passed away at 99.

Fogie and I will be there. We (Select Rarities) have been setting up at the Denver Expo somewhat regularly. If you are at the show, connect with us. Daniel Carr should be there too.

Re: SF Morgan reverse die just sold

Here it is in coin orientation, in case anyone wants to take a stab at attributing it. The turd in the G eliminates some. The break in the left wing was probably a production crack from the F to the right wreath.

Re: Pittsburgh

All in all, it was a very good show. From a selling perspective, I didn't get the numbers I had expected. However, a few coins that had been surprisingly difficult sells did find the right buyers finally. I envy the dealers who can predict, with any accuracy, the right coins to bring to each show. S...
